My StarVR One Arrived!

Nope, he’s a tough negiotator  And since there’s about 0 supply in the market, I had to pay the normal price. In fact I think if you put it up on ebay you might even get more than $3200 for it. Not sure though and don’t care, I don’t need to make a profit on it. If I really LOVE the headset I’ll keep it, but most likely I’ll put it up for sale again, just want to have a couple of days fun with it and see what MRTV and voodoo were raving about

I like it and will still develop with it. Write you findings. Maybe we can find some solutions to it.

John, regarding the image sharpness, did you find it blurry since you have a wider IPD?

Yes for my standards it was too blurry

And you are 69 IPD? Humm

I think John has 67. I have 69 IPD

Still at 67 he should have better focus. I am interested to see the lenses from the inside

The PPD for this headset is relatively low and since SDE doesn’t seem too noticeable, I think there indeed must be some filter, making it more blurry?

Thats the thing, it can be several factors that I have mentioned. It is hard to know until i get my second unit so I can tinker

The focus was okay, but i think also somekind off filter that makes it blurry.

Then is possible they have a poor diffuser layer that is potentially messing up the image and also the cause for the dirty layer we saw

Thats also what i am thinking, maybe they hadnt that way back when voodoo and mrtv tested the star vr one…

I tested it in 2018 and didnt feel blurry, but it could have and didn’t noticed as much

so they screwed something up i think, but it could be software related also

Lionel? What are they doing now?

Yes, Not sure the reasons why they are still not involved. But not having the core engineers involved makes the progress of the headset more difficult, in my personal view.

I think they are trying to figure it out. I sure hope they get back in. I based my headset of Lionels originals design

Well, hope everything works out well - for the product and for the people, both.

Update:

So I got a reply about the blurry image from StarVR. Here is when you know they have nothing to solve the issue:

"Could you move your headset a little bit further from your face and see if the image is more clear with some distance? We had a customer with small IPD who mentioned that thick face foam is more suitable for him.

Let me know if it works for you and we’ll see how to arrange it"

This alone will not make solve the issue. I will just have to use it as is.

Not sure, just a hunch. But if I‘m right I‘m glad u‘re back.

Update

I am starting to be more convinced that something is wrong with the lenses/optics. The blurriness is unnatural and with the strange “dirt layer” across the image that John and I witnessed. I am more incline to believe more and more that the reasons are

  1. A diffuse layer on the lenses to mitigate screendoor
  2. Poor lens design.

I am starting to rule out the IPD as an issue.
