Well either you’d need tonot know the specs of the headset your trying out.
Or would need someone to set up the headset with a program and tester keep eyes closed while being fitted.
After knowing headset specs and physical shape not really possible to do a blind test. Except with Pimax one could as each looks the same save atm blue or black housing.
First I have it set to 72Hz and then I opened the file in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\steamvr.vrsettings
I added the following line inside the brackets of “steamvr” : { }
“maxRecommendedResolution” : 16384,
After making the change, open SteamVR and then check the text file to make sure the value wasn’t changed and leave resolution at Auto. You might have to re-insert every time before starting up SteamVR. It looks SO much better. It is like an Odyssey+ now. I can see the games on SteamVR Home much clearer with less blurriness. I just played some Half Life Alyx, Pavlov, and The Walking Dead, they all look much better and performance is pretty good. The only downside is adding this line prevents you from seeing your fpsvr stats.
Now I can definitely see myself spending a lot more time in this headset
Keep in mind I have a PC with i7 8700, 2080 Ti, and 32GB of Corsair ram which is overclocked through XMP to 3,200Mhz. I think the faster ram is pretty important in performance quality and minimizing the number of crashes.
If by mura, you mean a grainy filter then just keep trying to uninstall, reinstall, deleting the mura files, downloading them again, exporting then importing them, upgrading eye tracker, then downgrading, etc. You’ll eventually get the picture to look clear without the grainyness. I think it’s just a glitch and requires it to be triggered somehow. For me it seems I got lucky when I eventually fixed it.
It could be possible that your particular headset is defective and might need to be RMAd
In SteamVR home I don’t notice anything that would detract from my experience. In games, during dark loading screens, I can see this slight bluish overlay covering my face. But once the scene finishes loading into something brighter, I don’t notice it as much anymore. So I would say if I have mura, whatever it is, doesn’t bother me at all.
By the way, the heavy cable can be annoying sometimes when it gets tangled. It’s weight causes my headset to tilt uncomfortably leftward. I’ve solved it by strapping the cable on my ceiling cable system.
If you get a HP VR backpack, you can place the cables nice and organised and get full movement without dealing with the cable. I plan to do that for my demo
Try it in Pavlov or VRCHAT on the menu screen and tell me it doesn’t detract you. I agree that it’s still playable while in-game. Unless you somehow managed to get the red and blue mura channel correction working, 4/6 of the mura files aren’t currently used at all. :S
The mura is the “dirty” pixel layer that follows your face. It can be extremely visible to almost invisible depending of the colors…
If someone has contacts at StarVR, the info to fix the mura is in the ticket “DS-89”. Hopefully they see it this week…
I remember reading about that tip a while ago but I never tried it. Unfortunately, even if I set the file to ‘read only’ steam vr then creates another file called steamvr.vrsettings.tmp and deletes the max resolution line from the new .tmp file that it just creates when it cannot read the original file. It seems like it REALLY doesn’t want to allow me to change that line. How did you circumvent this?
When I put it in there. I open SteamVR, and then I check the file to see if it was removed. If it wasn’t, I change some settings for example I enabled “Show advanced settings”. This seems to re-organize the txt file while keeping the maxRecommendedResolution line. If it doesn’t, just add in the line again, close SteamVR and start it. I just kept re-adding the line until eventually it stopped removing it. You can use my file:
Add in the last 3 lines in the same order to your steamvr.settings file. The supersamplescale seems to be important as well. (That’s the 500% supersampling).
Dang it! Now just its mere mention makes me curious, for no good reason whatsoever - the allure of even the least important of secrets.
Did you mention whether it will be hush-shush forever, or has an NDA expiry date?
Note that the syntax (EDIT: .json), is such that if it is the last entry in the object (i.e. right before the closing bracket to “steamvr: {”, it should not terminate with a comma - that is only there to indicate that there is more to come.
The line will also be auto-removed if it sets the parameter to the same value as it is given in: “default.vrsettings”, but if that was already 16k, you should be home at any rate. :7
Finally, I hear some people have steam installed for multiple users, and therefore have the file in user/appdata; Don’t know how priorities work between that and the copy in the installation directory.
Can you double check your file again? Is it 16384 or “16384”
I’ve tried over and over and over again about seven times using your instructions and it refuses to stick. I’ll try changing the default.vrsettings value next to see if that works
No double quotes around the number! Also make sure you’re using the correct double quotes around maxRecommendResolution
Sometimes this forum turns normal double quotes into the curly kind which is incorrect. Don’t change default, sweviver said not to. Just keep trying and adding in the supersamplescale line and perhaps try
“supersampleManualOverride” : true,
