MRTV: Pimax 5k+ vs. Oculus Go Through Lens Comparison

The bars on b burger threw me but they are absent in the full blow up. Other than that really impressed by sde on 5k compared to go.

Yay, what did I win? Oh right, I owe you another donation, lol!

Wow, I have to say that I am really impressed to see the Go has more SDE than the 5k+! I really thought a tie maybe, but not from those pics anyhow. I do hope they can work on the color reproduction somehow on the 5k+ though.

With that I just don’t see the need for the 8k with its compromises.

@mixedrealityTV Can you speak to SweViver’s saying that new Pimax update makes the 8k sharper?

Sebastian can you control the jpeg compression algorithm with you Lumix? You use the highest setting for the output file…

no one can make 8k sharper, its a down-scaled and up-scaled quality.

Firmware updates to the scaler certainly can, including other scaling techniques. You’re 0/2 bud, shhh.

Can’t discern the SDE, the photos are blurry.

Turn up the brightness on the Oculus Go to match the 5K+ if you can. Thanks!

Too bad that the scaler chip is very limited and appears to be a pure hardware implementation (there’s probably no firmware to update).

I understood that the HMD was firmware update-able in general, but no idea if that can affect the scaler directly. This day and age one would certainly hope so.

Maybe the testers can chime in on all these mysteries.

I thought A is 5K Plus because it’s more SDE and B is 8K because of less SDE.

And more ropes made of poop?

lol, by fixing a Ferrari body to Honda civic Engine it will look like Ferrari, but will never be a Ferrari.
or if a upscaler/firmware produces OLED quality why anyone buys OLED TV

ohh crap … another NDA!

@mixedrealityTV Hi sebastian , can you zoom more and shoot them again?, I have ever test go and I zoom the carmera which I can see pixel similar to my normal eyes. I think the sde is bigger than those image.

From your images, I feel the 5k+ can see sde easier than oculus go.

This is my shot.

Sorry I mis-reading, I guess that

oculus go / 5k+ and right is better.
And just see your answer.

Just in case, dont forget the watch the picture at 100% scale, which result in a “zoomed” view of it to get one pixel of the image for one pixel of your screen.
In any case, the paint on B barely have fingers rendered.

For the painting - A because the colours are richer and tint seems more accurate although it is a bit oversaturated and you are losing the shine off of the hair that appears in B. They seem about the same resolution wise. Not a huge preference.

For the burgers I prefer B as it is noticeably sharper and more detailed. Also A seems a bit dark for an outdoor scene. OTOH maybe B is a bit too bright as the shaded sides (hamburger and table edge) don’t really stand out so there is a loss of contrast. Still prefer B by a good margin though.

Can we have the answers now?

answered here by Sebastian.

It’s reassuring that the 5k+ is the B for both because it’s much better on these pictures

Sadly neither one of them look very good. Zooming close you can tell which is which if you read the reviews though I’m not impressed.
