Yeah the brain can adjust, but it will never feel as immersive as having wider FOV. Not being able to rely on your peripheral vision is a huge restriction. I still appreciate the better resolution on my Index than my StarVR One. But I now prefer the StarVR because it’s just more immersive overall.
Does anyone know where one can pick up some tracker dongles to use for Index controllers?

I’ll give my 2 cents. Personally I don’t think you should let anyone sway your opinion. Your use case is your usecase and you should decide for yourself what is best for you and trust your own judgement as we’ve all seen different reviewers react differently to different headsets.
For me I care about 4 things above all else, SDE,FOV,Wireless,Eyetracking(DFR). Find out what YOU personally care about and buy accordingly. If you don’t care for FOV then honestly just pick up the G2 you’ll save a lot of money and headache.
The Cosmos Headset has wireless and Eyetracking but the SDE and FOV is completely unacceptable to me so I’ll never get it.
Also notice how I didn’t put Distortion or Refresh rater (Hz) in my list because I don’t see distortions and low FPS if stable doesn’t bother me but you should decide your own priorities because those might bother you.
I refuse to buy a gen1 fov hmd because I did that at 2016 already, no way I will settle for gen1 fov 4 years on, just because resolution got higher. It needs to more than that.
So its camp pimax 2020 for me, and I will see from then on what’s available and how big a leap forward.
What if they toss in shiny colors?
I’ve never gamed on gen 1 fov since pimax, the moment I put it on the first immediate thing I notice is how restrictive the view was and then the lack of peripheral vision.
This is one area I am not willing to settle so who ever makes wide fov with high resolution low SDE gets my money.
Besides pimax with eye tracking seems hard to beat this year in 2020. But who knows what the future will bring.
i think MRTV will say that the pimax 8KX is 20% better than G2, but its 4x the price (Factor in higher GPU) and you have to have base stations, the device is also larger on desk.
its not one review though - lots of reviews of the 8KX are coming out now and they seem to have the same issues as the 5k+/8k, so if people already had one of those and ordered an 8KX because Pimax said they’d solved all the issues, but then a headset just as clear but without the FOV related issues of the pimax and better than half the price, well…
It’s good I have 2 Steam controller dongles unopened and still in their anti-static bags. I had bought them back when I had planned to get my Odyssey+ to work with Index controllers until I eventually bought the full Index kit. Now I can use them for G2 instead.
@mixedrealityTV When will the G2 be available for pre-order in Canada?
Why not ask Google instead of Sebastian?
“hp reverb g2 release date”
The company says pre-orders for other “select countries” are expected to open between mid-June and July.
“hp reverb g2 release date canada”
HP Reverb G2 Worldwide Pre-Orders To Launch In June/July
During a presentation announcing the headset at the AWE 2020 event last week, the company confirmed that HP Reverb G2 worldwide pre-orders would be launching in mid-June and then continuing to roll out across July. These regions include Asia, Canada, Latin America and Europe. US pre-orders are currently available from the official website.
Hi dmel your going to get the G2 now?
UK website is down
I have a feeling that colors and and brightness sharpness adds more to the immersion,so here a win for the G2 i think…
I already had it with my pimax 8kplus(that i sold)
The colors werent that great and not very bright, then when i put back my index on again the immersion was far better because off the colors and brightness and sharpness
Everyone has different priorities. For example people who are colorblind don’t care about colors or people like me who never ever get VR sick no matter what the FPS can deal with headsets with lower FPS output. Buy what suits YOU and fits your needs.
Headsets are not some beauty pageant the key is to know what you actually want and don’t get suckered in. Applies to Pimax, the G2, Index, Quest, Vive,XTAL, StarVR and every other headset on the market.
Yes, I think I will and then compare it to 8KX. But most likely I would still prefer wide FOV and end up selling the G2. If I like both, then I’ll sell the Index.
I’ve already read all of the information you posted before. I’m just annoyed that there’s no date for Canada yet and we’re already in July. Sebastian has direct communication with HP, so he can ask them about a specific date.
It’s annoying that certain countries are put in the back of the line when it comes to preorders.
Well I wonder if the G2 will still be as good when they reduce the brightness by 20 to 30% in the final unit like Sebastian mentioned. They might cut corners on the final production units.
I agree everyone prioritised things differently with headsets.
Me personally I want good colours & brightness as a number 1.
Then resolution, eye comfort, big sweet spot (physical for my eyes to fit into & clear spot across screen)
One thing i found is I can go back to lower fov & i dont mind if other things are better to compensate.
My main problems with pimax were eye comfort, colours & lack of plug & play.
My main problems with index are colours.
But I want higher resolution on every headset.
I also want higher fov but not at a cost of anything else.
I’m getting both 8kx & g2 & i think maybe they will both have a place as long as there aren’t any major flaws in either.
If they do I hope they give the option to turn the brightness up.
Dull lcd really bothers me
