Bummer.
Wonderful. Had been wondering the specific error on the part of Pimax. Time to take it to them!
Just curious…have you tried any of the mods yet? I have found them to be very immersive even without motion controls just because the worlds themselves are so detailed and expansive. Especially cyberpunk and RDR2.
I have. Just not the same without motion controllers.
You should try the free Vorpx mod. The motion gestures work shockingly well.
my personal experience with rdr2 and pimax, after having tried every possible combination, i got best results for my taste with the following configuration, considering that i severely hate the double vision effect caused by aer so i target at very high fps to minimize that artifact, i have pimax 5k, 11700k OC and rtx 3080 12Gb:
-install luke mod with low settings
-ingame disable resolution multiplier and enable dlss on quality (it may crash, do it with vr off)
-use OCULUS api not steam vr
-then, as i have a 2560x1440 monitor (and rdr2 vr res is tied to the desktop res) i’ve enabled nvidia super resolution in order to reach 5120*2880 desktop resolution
-enabled PP (some incongruencies without pp, so it must be on for perfect stereo image), and enabled hidden mask
-enabled 120HZ in pimax with small fov (i know i lose a bit of side view compared to 90hz, that’s the trade off, it’s still larger than any other headset on the market btw)
-then in system.xml config under Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings i’ve modified the following lines
<tessellation>kSettingLevel_High</tessellation>
<shadowQuality>kSettingLevel_Medium</shadowQuality>
<farShadowQuality>kSettingLevel_Medium</farShadowQuality>
<shadowSoftShadows>kSettingLevel_Medium</shadowSoftShadows>
then you have to match the abnormal pimax window ratio that in this case is something like 0.75 so i’ve set up the maximum resolution i can achieve with my monitor (so max 2880 vertical)
<screenWidthWindowed value="2004" />
<screenHeightWindowed value="2880" />
Only problem with this resolution is some hud text that may not fit the window, also minimap is a bit too centered, you may want to play with the Luke’s menu to make it smaller, results are very very nice, quality is good enough and fps range from 85(city) to 110(openspace) fps, when you are over 100 fps the AER effect is very low, that was my target.
Hope you find it useful, dlss has minor artifact and it flashes a bit when the image switches between static and moving, but as you wear an headset it’s very rare that the image is static as you are going to always move your head a bit, so for me is acceptable, also is crispier than TAA.
Forgot to mention: you need to fix piserver.exe with the hex editor to get rid of those black lines in oculus mode, solution provided by Luke, you can find more info on his patreon (or search above here).
i really dont feel the need for motion controls, head aiming is enough for me and is very well implemented, basically is freelook when not aiming and it become aimlook when you aim, perfect. i only hate aer.
Finishing note: i have a quest2 too, and honestly the experience with q2 was much worse than with pimax in almost every aspect, so i don’t know if Luke already fixed Pimax with the devs, but for me pimax already wins hands down with luke mods against q2
Yeah I also would love a “adapted” resolution for Pimax wide FOVs in RDR2, like Cyberpunk does. RDR2 doesn’t like to have it resolution switched in game (crashes) and also I can’t find a way to put it in an .ini - the one’s I’ve tried either ignore the entry or cause it to crash.
You guys have to check out the Let There Be Flight Mod. GitHub - jackhumbert/let_there_be_flight: A flight mod for Cyberpunk 2077
I thought it would be hacky or gimmicky. Nope! Works with Luke’s mod. Drop the files from the zip and …Let There Be Flight!
“And God saw that the flight was good…” - Genesis 1:4
I’m a believer!
A mod is supposed to be free or illegal.
I warned him but Luke scammer Ross thought he was untouchable. The funny part : he acts like a virgin.
I’m glad Take 2 put their nose in there.
Korgen no, that is not right.
It is nice to get something for free, but if somebody else has to do a lot of work for it, it is fair to modder get something in return.
I support occasionaly some moders, as I wish them to countinue their hard work.
@Korgen try to be fair, you do not need to support anybody, same as you do not have to use vr mods. If you do not like something, avoid it.
Is vorpx free? I understand youd like them to be free, but the rdr2 mod was free. Far as I can see he should just release the tk2 mods mods for free then keep on doing what he did before. If you aftermarket mod your car with a body kit and it ties into things then maybe you void your warranty, that is if you use his mod, you get no tech support. Other than that I own the game, I payed for his Patreon as I support his work, and the link was there. People shared the file all over, so its not like he had it behind a paywall.
A mod is based on original game code and modifies it, so using it to make a commercial profit is illegal.
Vorpx is based on his own code, that’s legal.
Ross method is illegal because you must pay to gain access to his mods or updates.
If he published the links for free and optionaly gets some donations from patreon, that would be legal.
The take down was copyright NOT license. So its not about the money. Effectively the only part from a legal standpoint is the imagery used for examples. That might be all he needs to remove.
are you 12 or what?who took a turd in your cereal this morning lol,man deserves to be paid for his work without people supporting him these games would not be playable in VR,aint nobody wasting their time and money away coding full time for nothing in return to bring games in VR monthly, also its exactly like vorpx,he sells his own injection hack that he created,he uses no assets from the game.
I thought VorpX also uses it’s “hooks” and modifies the code in almost exactly the same way/method.
vorpx is literally identical, just not as polished
If I’m 12 you’re a pathetic brainless fanboy
If it’s an injector, it’s not me the idiot who calls this a “mod”, so the question is : does it alter games dll or not.
Anyway, I won’t cry if Take 2 prohibit the publication of his “mods” or whatever.
I have to agree a bit with @Korgen here. But I also see your point of view as well. Also just to set the stage for the upcoming rant, I have been a Patreon supporter since last November and only pulled out in June because “reasons”
I have no problem with him making money for doing mods. All of the modders and emulator creators do. And I even optionally support them.
Praydog (Resident Evil Mods) , Raicuparta (Outer Wilds, Firewatch etc) all have Patreons and make money for their work. The key difference is that these guys release their mods eventually for free, so if someone were to accuse Praydog for charging for Resident Evil mods , he could say “no, you could download the mod for free, people are merely using the Patreon to support me of their own free will”, which you couldn’t argue.
I don’t think people are “supposed” to be doing that, and yes outside of Pirating his mod, it is Literally behind a paywall.
The problem with Luke is that on his Patreon he clearly states that the money is for early access to this mods & to support his ability to make the mods. But as I pointed out to him (to which he strongly disagrees), Its only “Early Access” if he actually releases them at some point, also supporting him isn’t really most peoples M.O. when giving him money. They are giving him a large sum of money so that they can get the MODS period.
If he made the mods available right away for the first 3 months while the mod was buggy, and then publicly released them afterwards, then anyone supporting him would be doing it to get early access and then purely support him even if they were getting nothing in return.
This model works and it also removes any suspicion that you may be charging for mods.
For example. Mafia mods and Horizon Zero Dawn, & Cyberpunk came out a long time ago, he updated them correcting bugs and adding feature for about 3 months and then hasn’t needed to go back to them again. For all intents and purpose “Early Access” is over for these mods. As far as I am concerned the only Early access mods he has right now should be Dark souls.
By not releasing any of these mods it then “appears that you are selling your mods” , and I guarantee that ANY company including those that support the modding community would immediately have an issue with a third party modifying their game and then selling it for a profit. It doesnt matter what I think, it only matters what Take Two thinks.
Here’s how I imagine this went down…
“The Verge” puts out an article saying “modder makes 20K a month making VR mods for famous Rockstar games”, this alone raises a red flag…
Take Two Executive: “let me take a look at this incredible mod i’ve been hearing about. I’ll just download it and see.”
Take Two Executive: Wait how do I download it, wait I have no choice but to pay?
I mean you could even argue that Praydog’s Resident evil mods are more of an issue for Capcom than Lukes mods are for Rockstar.
Capcom likely brokered millions of $$ from Meta to make RE4. And that was followed almost immediately by the release of 4 Current Gen versions of modern RE titles hitting Vr.
And then as soon as RE8 was announced as coming soon to PSVR2, literally the same week of that announcement RE7 and RE8 made headlines again adding full motion controls to Re7 and 8.
I remember thinking, "not a big deal, I can play RE8 in VR right now. "
Anyway, here’s my biggest concern…
If Take Two does issue a take down and kills the Rockstar Mods, this could set the precedent for CD Projekt Red and Sony do the same thing …
And who knows, all of this could be resolved by him simply releasing the mods for free and accepting “truly voluntary” patreon funds. He might be surprised how many people will still willingly give him money because they truly believe in him despite getting the mod for free eventually. Just look at CEMU’s patreon.
The other issue I have is concerning updates. If I pay $$ get the mod and then tomorrow an update comes out that breaks the mod, you have to buy again to get the updates. It just seems a bit too much like a shakedown.
This is where I think Rockstar is kind of in the right here. Regardless of what reason you buy Read Dead 2, even if it was just because of the VR mod. (Rockstar doesn’t care about the 0.000001% of sales gained because of the VR mod, they have been in top 20 of sales for 10 years I think they’ll live) this isn’t about that. The moment you buy one of their games you become their customer most companies will try to protect themselves and their customers from being potentially scammed or taken advantage of because the blow back can usually be directed back at them. So they will usually not condone things like a third party extracting large sums of money for exclusive access to a mod that couldn’t exist without their game.
There are plenty of GTA mods that modify and reverse engineer files that aren’t payed and then haven’t been targeted, even Scripthook isn’t really part of Rockstar’s modding tools
Remember Bleem? Bleem was an PSX emulator that went too far by trying to sell as a product to run psx games on dreamcast and pc. Normally even the largest companies in the world can’t touch these guys, but as soon as it seemed like they were exclusively selling access to it as a product, BAM they lost.
PCSX was another emulator that popped up almost immediately and Sony couldn’t do anything to them and they still exist till this day. (not really related to the current situation but kind of similar)
Keep in mind also that TakeTwo 2kGames is the same company that gave their blessing to the modders to use Bioshock Assets for that HL:Alyx VR Bioshock Mod. But I guarantee you it would be a different story if they paywalled it.
Anyway This is just the Rant of a mad man, pay me no mind.
They function in the same way, but Vorpx approach is more generalized. Which is why it doesn’t work on all games, and the ones it does work on is very basic as in your get head tracking that’s it.
Luke has to do some very specific things to make the mods works as well as possible.
yeah and they dont do it full time afaik, look at praydog after he released re8,i went to donate 20$ and he had like just 100 patreons most proly giving 1 or 2$,it is proly why those mods for one single engine took over a year to make.
I was on discord and the main moder Cabalistic working on the half life 2 VR mod said he will never do a portal 2 in VR not for free at least for sure,he said its just too much work that its taking away all of his free time.
id gladly prefer to pay and visit more vr worlds, but i agree with the early access thing, after a few months itl be a good idea to make them free.
