LCD panel type?

How can I be certain that I am getting a 4K model when I order from Amazon? Prime day is fast approaching.

Very good question. I think pimax needs to help out here and see if there’s a way that customers are sure they’re getting the 4k model.

What I am trying to get at is if the claim is that I have the Pimax BE, then it should have functionality, other than a 4k screen, that the Pimax 4k does not have, and I should run different software. It should run native to Quad HD at 90hz. And there should be other software. If I really do have the business model it would be nice to know how to use it, and I actually would be OK with it. But if is a 4k minus the 4k but with only 60hz capability, then it isn’t so nice.

Agreed, pimax should make the BE software available for you guys. I’m betting that it can at least do 70 hz instead of 60 hz and who knows, even 90 hz maybe.

Also I suggest a way to replace the unit for free, including delivery charges because you’ve sold customers something they did not order (a 1440p screen instead of a 4k). That would be only fair. If customers would want it of course.

Your discussions have helped me a lot and it has helped me sort out my various thoughts. So I want to write it down here.
I’m sorry for my English in advance I use google to translate

  1. about the Pimax 4K BE & Pimax 4K
In Korea, Pimax BE has already been sold for businesses that provide VR experience services. Sometimes an individual purchases it and introduces it to the vr community, which is consistent with the statement above. And Pimax 4K is called Pimax 4K V2 among people. This means that the lens center blur problem has been resolved and to distinguish it from the products that were produced before and had problems. It has nothing to do with the firmware version.

  2. SDE of OLED & LCD
I bought OSVR HDK 1.4, Pimax 4K, 2K DIY-VR, Deepoon E2, Dual 2K DIY-VR and Deepoon E3 in order. The feeling of SDE is as follows.
    A. OSVR HDK 1.4 & Deepoon E2 (OLED): The SDE looks like a film of sand grains coated on the lens and the screen is behind the SDE.
    B. Deepoon E3 (OLED): SDE looks like a film coated with sand grains on the lens and the screen is behind SDE. Sand grains are smaller and less noticeable than HDK 1.4 and Deepoon E2.
    B. Pimax 4K (LCD): SDE looks like a very fine mesh and it looks like it is at the same height as the screen, but it can notice less.
    C. 2K DIY-VR (LCD): Same as Pimax 4K and SDE is less noticeable.

As such, the feel of SDE depends on the type of display. The OLED looks like a grain of sand in front of you, and the screen is behind it. However, the SDE on the LCD looks like a net on the screen, so when we watch the movie, the OLED feels a frustrating view and the LCD feels a cool view.

  1. Aspheric lens, Fresnel lens and Godray
    A. LCD & aspherical lens (Pimax 4K): Does not care much about center alignment of eyes and lens.
    B. OLED & aspherical lens (Deepoon e2, HDK1.4 is a dual-element aspherical optics lens)
: Does not care much about center alignment of eyes and lens… There is no godray.
    C. LCD & Fresnel lens (2K DIY-VR): It is clear that the center of the eye and the lens must be matched. Godray is created at the outer edge of the lens.
    D. OLED & Fresnel lens (Deepoon E3): It is clear that the center of the eye and the lens must be matched. Godray is created at the outer edge of the lens.

That is, there is no Godray in the aspherical lens, and Godray is in the Fresnel lens.

From the above experience,
Pimax BE can be expected to:
OLED + aspherical lenses do not require much attention to the center alignment of the eye and lens, SDE will look like a film of sand grains coated on the lens and the screen will be behind the SDE. A stuffy view but there will be no godray.

Pimax 8K can be expected to:
Since it is an LCD + Fresnel lens, you must align the center of the eye with the lens, and the SDE looks like a net on the screen, but less noticeable and a cooler view, there will be a godray.

Hi…i am a new user here. I have a 102 in a box but not tried it yet as need to build a PC first. Have you tried a Rift or Vive and if so how does the SDE compare to the 102?I think there are 2 main reasons to get a Pimax rather than the Rift of Vive - it is cheaper and it has less SDE so I’m very interested in how it compares.

Hi Ricky.

Serial 102 is the BE model. It features Qhd (1440x2560) oled Display. The sde effect will be considerably less (be much like @crony describes above).

You’d need to weigh the pros & cons. The 102 was mishipped as the Pimax 4k. The 4k model features a uhd lcd panel (2560x3860) which accepts 1080p & 1440p input then upconverts to uhd ind the headset.

I would reccommend reading up on both. If you do want the 4k model contact @PIMAX-Support about an exchange. Both models have benefits & disadvantages. Tge 4k model is really nice for reading text & instrument guages in sims for example.

@Heliosurge

It is not true what you are saying here.

First of all, 102 doesn\t seem to be BE. It doesn\t have 90 Hz refreshing rate.

Then , in my case, Pimax did nothing to exchange except sending me to complain at Gearbest.
Gearbest acts like they can\t understand English, they are hilarious.
