Just tried the quest 2

Thanks for the info. How many games are available for crossplay? Is there a list somewhere perhaps?

From what I know, Orbusvr, rec room, big screen, and VRchat. May be a few more.

i must say bigscreen is very impressive on the quest 2,even more then on my pimax 8kx(but that has to do with the bad comfort and the lenses little sweetspot and mura i think)

Pitool unfortunately currently on will support 1 pimax headset. I recall a review I think during the last competition where a fellow was able to run an Oculus headset with a pimax at the same time. It might be in the Spotlight reviews.

If you have a strong enough pc you might be able to with using a Virtual Box.

It would be so awesome if Pitool supported more than one headset.

This has been a request even back with the pimax 4k in piplay.

I am guessing they still need to work out how to do this without needing to use a VM. Which is maybe understandable as they need to improve the base drivers and program before trying to enable multiple hmds on 1 machine.

Yeah, I’m not expecting to see that feature any time soon.

I am still waiting as far back as the p4k for linux support which was on the road map back then.

And with Vive mode they should have an easier time as Vive headset(s) are in the linux kernel. Just need a binary for linux. Though maybe Wine can help as it was later used to fill in the blanks with the Oculus sdk when Oculus had moved away from working on linux support.

actually 2-3 years ago I had the same issue as tried to play some VR games with my wife, e.g. we played Karnage she even liked it.

I had 2 CV1 & Oculus software didn’t work for 2 HMDs at once, so after reasearch I found out unraid software - which allows you to run 2 or more OS systems simulteneously on the same PC & distribute cores other hardware like GPUs per OS, it’s built on linux & then with really cool features emulates real harwdare instance so Windows just don’t know it’s run on top of unraid & it’s not using hyperthreding, it’s like hardware split.

To do so I bought additional GPU - which was 1060 8G RAM & it worked pretty well my main GPU was 1080TI watercolled.

So it will work for Pimax if you have an additional GPU, integrated in CPU won’t work though.

The only caution I can remember of is that it did some minor stuttering for me in Echo VR game (fast paced competitive one) & it’s why later I deleted unraid as wife doesn’t like VR too much &I we played once per 6 months but for games like recroom & karnage we didn’t experience any issues, it was a good experience, but when you play alone it causes additional layer of software which affects performance. But that said you can have 1 OS without unraid & have partition / other HDD with unraid so you can switch between those & get the best of two worlds, but it requires some work, even if unraid was done extremely easy to be configured through their USB image & simplified UI with forum guides & answers.

Thanks for the info. That’s why I was looking at just grabbing a Quest 2 instead. I’d have to buy another gpu for it to work and create a virtualized machine. However, to run SteamVR games I’d have to run one as well. I just need a second pc.

The engineer has reproduced the issue and looking for the reason . I suggest that install an earlier version pitool before the bug fixed. Thanks.

You know has anyone actually tried upscale mode on the 8kX. For some reason I haven’t yet.

First day i got the X i noticed when looking at white in Virtual Desktop that there was a mura like effect not really mura more like blotches of pixels that were slightly darker than others.

It gave the appearance of a dirty window.

But when I went back in almost 2 weeks later it was gone. Its as if the headset needed to wear in those pixels.

Now the whites are perfectly clean like Downy fresh sheets.

I know , thats what i’ve had to do. 261 is the latest version without the issue. but I dont think the 8kx runs best on this version.

I have. Not impressed. Too blurry…

maybe thats why i havent tried it. You know what would be cool. If VRSS could upsample 1080p to 4k and make it indiscernable.

I wonder if VRSS coukd help render the other eye since the scene is largely the same

Here its still very noticible,if it wasnt there on the pimax 8kx the picture would be way better…

got Q2 today, played couple of hours,

out of the box for me Q2 is way more comfort than Q1, lighter, cloth strap is great to lean on the back on sofa/chair, easy to print adapters for DAS.

sound is amazing (not index level etc) but considering it’s remote speakers from strap hinges, it really ok, just a bit quite but spatial, basses all is ok.

controllers good, overall I guess hey hmmm hard to compare - I prefer CV1 on top of everything, then rift S / Q1 ones the top part of Q2 is better but the handle itself where the grip button is, is not so comfy as Q1’s for me. But overall it’s near the Q1 controllers, better in some moments. Also I think they collide more often due to the bigger size, but not as bad as it sounds.

IPD for me is good, Im 68.5 & on the 3rdh position I don’t see panels ends but if I looks ahead in some scenes I still can see it, if I swap foam to get more FOV it’s really bad, but on 2nd position for my IPD it’s crystal clear, so it’s not a deal breaker for me.

Sense of presense is more or less the same, just better clarity adds a bit to it.

Well now screens. It’s good, I expected much worse, it’s way overall better experience than index coz it doesn’t have vertical ripple (pixel lines), SDE is less & contrast & colours are ok, sometimes great in e.g. Quill in bright scenes. In dark scenes it’s not as great & Q1 still looks better just bigger SDE, but sometimes Q2 shines & colours are really ok, it’s close to OLED, just a bit dimmed & overall more softer image due to nature of LCD, also drab scenes & constrast lack in some moments, but it I would say tolerable. Just really hard to choose one, I wouldn’t say it’s 100% better than Q1, just 2 different worlds, btw smell & feel was really similar to new Pimax 8k, Chinese manufactured product (not bad smell, just like new electronics smell).

I still see SDE, it’s really small & there is almost no grid, I believe it’s similar to 8kX where you can see it on bright surfaces, but it doesn’t break eyes. I would like to check 8kX how the resolution & by much it’s better, but I sure overall experience is way better on Q2 in terms of screen quiality & perceived picture.

If it would OLED hmd it would be only good upgrade from Q1 in every aspect for me, more fast processor, lightweight, etc. but Screen has own cons & pros, mains cons are drab blacks, a bit dimmed & soft picture, but all other properties are just great. Really quality made panels. It’s best LCD screen Ive experienced so far, doesn’t make me sick of colour & some scenes looks breathtaking. But I still will often use Q1 as I just too much like good dark scenes & sharpness of the image.

Will try to do valuation of HMDs I have & which ones I like the most, first is best(left side):

HTC Vive Pro/Eye | Q1/Q2 (partially now it’s best one, but overall still prefer PRO) | Index / Cosmos Elite | 5k+/5KXR (SDE is worse than O+ but overall experience is better - I like modding + FOV + comfort with DAS) Samsung O+ | CV1(still a gold standard for me almost all was done ideally here, if they would have renewed model of it with PRO level OLED without fogging & with eye relief value it would be best, sound, form factor, comfort, controllers all just are great )/Vive OG (one of the best HMD, the only flaw is SDE it’s just not tolerable at all, only in some cases like beat saber & fast paced games, but it does break eyes)

So I took your suggestion, sold my 5K+ and bought a Quest 2 mainly for my girlfriend. (I still have my 8KX). Anyways, I wanted to share my experience with it.

The Quest 2 is super cool for only being $400. I did the resolution hack, setup SideQuest with the Streamer App, and ran SteamVR games like Alyx through Virtual Desktop wirelessly to the headset. It worked flawlessly and it was really cool to play steamVR games untethered. I was quite impressed with the resolution and quality when connected that way, as I noticed a number of Oculus Quest games were visually downgraded when purchased or ran directly through the device without the cable. It honestly felt like my 5K+ with a somewhat smaller FOV, but wireless. It’s not the most comfortable headset out of the box, but most aren’t either without accessories or mods. Overall it’s a very impressive piece of tech that I’m glad you guys mentioned.
