Does 4K per eye within 125 FOV and with Aspherical lens make sense? The king of clarity only for iRacing? who know
Pimax would love nothing more than for their competitor to be obsolete.
Tell you what, if Pimax ships ALL 8KX headsets before the end of this month as promised, then we can call the G2 obsolete. Deal?
If not, youāll continue losing customers.
Making aspherical replacement drop-in lenses for your flagship 8Kx HMD would make a lot more sense than what you are proposing
125 FOV are you talking about CFOV ( contour FOV) !?
which is (VFOV+HFOV)/2 160+90/2
If the lenses and displays are great then I think you might just be describing my personal sweetspot compromise. Who plans such a headset? And how do they tackle the bandwidth issue? HDMI 2.1? When can we buy this, how much
I think this would rock not only for iRacing but also for movies, texts and finally immersion in most games. Itās still not retina resolution - but as close as current hardware might realistically get.
The G2 will be the cheapest high end VR bundle available. If HP delivers a good product and a RTX 3060 is sufficient for acceptable performance, it could be a big stepping stone for mainstreaming VR 2.0.
There was a lot of demand for the G1, hopefully they havenāt ruined it for themselves.
I would also have opted for say 130-150 degrees of FoV with the 2x4K displays as a good compromise in order to boost acuity in the central areas. The 170 degrees of the Pimax headsets is nice but would be 1b to my above-described 1a approach.
And now HP are apparently going to add a version with eye- and face-tracking.
If they play their cards right (and you get yourself Index controllers & base stations), this could be a winner. Especially if it is much more plug & play than Pimaxā headsets (no pressure, Marcinā¦ ]
Iād consider trading in my 8KX for that (or replacing the lenses?), but it would have to be at least 90Hz Native to fully compete with the G2.
You should know the answer as the aspherical lenses of the p4k were quite good. Even though your myopic offset caused issues and the sharp lcd panel was not as suitable for vr due to ghosting.
An Artisan with 125 wide FoV with 4k res would be quite good. If you can source panels at 2160Ć1920 per eye in a config of 4320Ć1920 combined Res with Aspherical lenses would be king.
Just be sure to copy the fact VR headsets use usb 3 not 2 as tracking has very high bandwidth costs and is also needed for proper support of modules.
G2 is what Iāve suggested to a friend for his first VR headset for this very reason. The value proposition sounds amazing, particuarly for those without an existing steamvr setup
Heās only played Beat Sabre on a Quest so far. He lives several hours away, so itās not like I can help him out.
Iām slightly worried if Pimax does come out with this, Oculus/Valve will finally all of a sudden have a headset thatās 130/140 FOV and āgood enoughā resolution. Could be a waste of Pimaxās time unless they push it to 140FOV. Iām curious if Oculus is going to show us the āfutureā of a wide FOV headset at Foculus Connect in a few weeks.
I think Pimax proposition is 3840x2160 per eye.
Well the Artisan is only 125Ā° wide FoV.
Please please please tell this isnāt an official Pimax employee who started a new thread just to talk trash about the competition?
That is the 8k models. I am referring to improving the Artisan which has a 125 wide fov.
Even a p4k redo with the panel used in the X could compete witg the reverb g2 with improvements from the p2 series. Ie perhaps the 110 to 120hz capability since it is only 1 4k panel
I donāt think the intent was to talk trash about G2 but was a poorly presented question on possible interest in another headset model that could directly compete with the G2, likely from a price perspective. I personally donāt want to hear anything about new models until theyāve completed all of the still outstanding obligations that they already have.
As acegamer said, Iām sure that wasnāt the intentionā¦
PimaxVR is Robin Weng, Founder/CEO of Pimax as far as I recallā¦
Iām confused how the intent is not to trash talk when title of the thread is: āReverb G2 will be obsolete?ā
I think he might have the words the wrong way aroundā¦
Will the Reverb G2 be obsolete ? (if we make this product)
I sure the intention was not to trashtalk other products, just the fact that English is not his native language.
130 FOV, 4k per eye, MicroLed, HDR and Aspherical lens, Deal.
