Imported game (Alien Isolation) with launch options/command line parameter doesn't start (PE 0.6.0)

Nice work on 0.6.0! It’s soo smooth… :wink:

That said, I’m having a problem with an imported game (Alien Isolation with MotherVR mod) which uses command line options (-steamvr).

First I’d like to thank you for your well written bug report!

I’ll have a look at it soon.
Meanwhile, since I don’t have the game myself, would you also try running the AI.exe on command prompt, first without the argument, to see whether the app launches correctly or not. Then with the -steamvr argument.

Your result from running it via command prompt will provide more clues.

Since I squash bugs (“DevOps SysAdm” if You will) for a living I know how annoying it is to get a bug report like: “Doesn’t work”, but thanks for noticing…! :wink:

Could that be the cause? There wasn’t any prompt when running it from PE.

Just tried running it without the “-steamvr” parameter/flag and that also works (it’s just there to force the mod to start in VR mode and there’s also a -novr flag to start it in pancake mode) and that also works… :wink:

I’ll try changing the import in PE to run without command line options and see if that changes anything…! :wink:

We made sure PE communicates it correctly with Steam, so Steam won’t need the user to manually press the OK button. Did you press the OK button on the popup, to see the game actually launch (or fail to launch)? If not, please do so and share the result.

Yes. It launched after pressing “OK” (when running AI.exe -steamvr from a prompt).

Come to think about it I have another imported game (Yooka-Laylee) also using a VR mod which needs a parameter passed and on that one the prompt is shown when I run it from PE so I have to take off the headset to click it… :upside_down_face:

Great! That already narrows it down to know why the app may not launch. I added a ticket to backlog to investigate why imported games that require Steam, would not launch.

Regarding the popup it only shows when the copy of the game requires certain Steam API to function properly.

Not to hijack the thread (I’m having a similar issue), but is there a way to force an imported app to use Oculus instead of Steamvr? The only options are steamvr, pitool, and the direct exe.

Tried running it without command line option on (actually deleted it completely as it seems like it didn’t save it when I unchecked it (the on/off check mark for command line option in PE under the imported game)… :wink:

Also tried running it both “via SteamVR” and as an exe only. Same result.

I have one more thing you might be able to try and see whether it works or not:

Adding the AI.exe of the Alien Isolation as an imported game via Steam Client (instead of importing it in PE) and launching that imported game with the -steamvr command line argument in PE.

I’m not sure I understand?

It’s already in Steam. The only “problem” is that it isn’t showing as a VR game (I guess) so PE doesn’t automatically import it.

I think I have enough information for my investigation in code and see how we can make them work.

This is indeed a filter we have. PE only looks for VR games on Steam and we skip all non-vr games.
Will look into this feature later with @SweViver

It’s still not showing up in PE after adding the game (remembering to tick “include in VR Library”).

I’ve tried reloading + stopping/starting PE.

I’ll just try a full reboot too… :wink:

Oh, and another thing: I don’t see a “delete” option for the imported games (I have quite a few now)… Guess I’ll have to resort to deleting the files in C:\Users\UserName\AppData\LocalLow\Pimax\Pimax VR Experience\GameImports (customimport.app.?) :wink:

Just noticed that You can do it in “Game Manager” if You change category to “Imported” and press “List all” so I’m not sure if a delete function is needed where the imports are done, but too me it makes sense… :wink:

I think I already had a chat with Martin about the “include in VR Library” thingy or maybe we were just talking about custom “Collections”.

Anyway, Steam probably just uses the “VR” tag (actually it’s a “collection”) as the other ones are something I’ve added:

I missed this in the middle of the original conversation.
In short: not yet.
Longer version: We have had countless issues regarding Oculus. I cannot promise anything yet. But we will revisit Oculus related issues in the not so very near future.

PiTool mode in PE is in fact the so called “Oculus-mode” which will prevent SteamVR. It launches the game though OVRLauncher instead. Same way as PiTool is doing through its My Games launcher.

Ok I wasn’t sure, it didn’t seem to be launching the Oculus app in the background.

It does not launch Oculus Home app or runtime. But it requires it to be running in background IF you run an Oculus game that is in the Oculus Home library (otherwise the game wont start or throw an error. Probably an anti-piracy check or something).

So yeah maybe we should force Oculus runtime to start, right before OVRlauncher starts the game. Just in case :slight_smile:
