I was about to buy the Varjo, but coming from an 8KX I am seriously concerned about the FOV being such and issue, even if the clarity is far better.
I had the G2 for a couple of days and couldn’t get used to the FOV after running the 8KX.
So I’ll give this Pro 2 ago, not to compare against the Varjo, that’s never going to be even close I doubt, but as a tester HMD for the reduced FOV of the 8KX. They Pro2 will sell out for sure, so I won’t lose any money for sure
I did own the original Pro, and that was a super comfortable HMD so I’m quite excited.
Let’s be honest, any new HMD, with such a short release date is exciting anyway, it’s given us all something to chat about, speculate about and even a few people have point blank refused to try it. I know how they feel as I refuse point blank to try spaghetti.
So labeling his vid “hard pass” is what then, just hypocrisy or an attempt to sensationalize his title for clicks? Certainly not level headed thinking in this one.
I’m only worried a Valve Index 2 or Samsung Odyssey 2 with much better specs gets announced/released shortly after Pro 2, which is why I think HTC are giving incentive to preorder now, then again, I thought the 8KX was going to be outdated by this time… I feel like HTC deserves my money because Vive 1 was so good (visually better than Rift1 imo(brightness/FOV/immersion) besides screendoor).
Same, but hopefully not too soon, lol. Those Samsung patents have been around for years now…I’d only want OLED if it was RGB, no more screen door for me, and I didn’t like the pixel diffuser that Samsung and Valve used…it makes everything less crisp. We’ll probably need 4K x 4K pentile for no screendoor
I really hope the dual fresnel isn’t to blur over SDE as samsung and others have done. At this resolution there is no reason to be doing that imo as it creates a whole host of other issues.
I hope the colors are mind blowing. It’s really the only reason I still love using HTC headsets, and I’m afraid that may be a property of OLED displays. Why cant a panel manufacturer do what sony did!?
It will likely allow them to correct for distortions on 2 matrix. This can allow for a higher panel utilization and less software corrections which will help performance. It’s very likely a good thing. As usual testing will tell the tale.
He measured it with standard foam, so most likely it’s even a bit wider and I’m now expecting it to be really 120 degrees but you’d probably need to mod the foam a bit. Too bad about the vertical FoV although again, measured with standard foam.
In 2 days the embargo will end so lots of info will be coming our way soon!
