Nope, only for power. There is no Data link
I think maybe the sinloon one would? It says its OTG and a hub
Otherwise this is a big deal and might switch to 8k+
Seriously? You think the wireless module needs to sit on the lower usb-c port of the X?
As helio already said, thats of course complete nonsense. As the wireless is in place instead of the tethered cable it would plug in on the headset where the cable plugs in right now.
In the short term probably yes, be even I that generally don’t mind those kind of “hacking” find that this side USB cable for the ET is not really marketable for a 1500$ US device. It’s not a kickstarter anymore. They made there best with what they had probably but it’s not a good design for a such high end device… in contrario many people will be happy to have ET a this time for this price
Well tbh I had thought it might need it until a fellow user pointed out it wouldn’t need too.
Drow maybe also just joking as well.
ok, i think this joke has run it’s course. Sarcasm doesn’t work
with some people.
Yeah, sure
That would be the only viable solution besides a revised headset itself. It will only take a year or two…
An additional USB cable is a viable solution, imo. Granted, not everyone agrees, but at the moment, there really isn’t a good solution for the missing top USB port.
Sure beats a separate cable.
I’m planning on using it to power a couple of cooling fans. Apparently, the Pimax USB port is unfiltered and the fans introduce noise in the headphones. Since I’ve ordered the DMAS, that’s unacceptable. My choice is therefor an additional USB cable or a battery pack.
See @Genesis’ review he adds a usb hub.
Sure, that works. But it’s sad that it is necessary.
Agreed with all the delays they should have delayed it a bit longer and relocated the top usb.
It is these little things that make Pimax stuff come across as so rushed and unrefined. The potential is so huge but they somehow manage to shoot themselves in the foot with a lot of little things quite often.
Agreed makes them look very unpolished. Like instructions to cut the face gasket for an official accessory. Or as were discussing the missing usb port reducing the whole modular concept and the very poor Quest like SMAS Audio(with back pedalling on previous statements on how great it was)
yep. but if Pimax would´t be Pimax we would not have access to a 2x 4k wide FOV hmd. The two sides of the story.
Absolutely agree. They did pioneer the canted display approach in the consumer space, which is already a big feat in itself. The only thing that holds me back from ordering a Pimax is the combination of price, unknown timeline and support in case something happens (e.g. ordering a headset, waiting several months for it and then it arriving with a defect would drive me nuts).
that would have been a whole new casing, it would have meant at least another 6 months delay, I don’t think most people would have accepted that - the more palatable delay would have been 6 months delay on the handtracking to accomodate passthrough
Or setting up another part if the line to tool existing housings.
The simpliest solution would have been a new cable with the extra usb port and the easiest. However it would mean all the cables pre purchased for the 8kX would be of no use.
And with the delays since January the retooled 1 part of the housing it is in 3 parts from memory could have been completed.
Hand tracking unlike the 8kX was supposed be out in 2018 early to mid 2019 as was supposed to be ready when the headset released as promoted in the KS campaign as not needing much work. Just an actual addon that was said to be ready.
