o.k. cool. It made sense to me being the numbers were the same. Just with r instead of i. Interesting how close they can be together without having copyright issues:P
So I know even though the speed for AMD is/was lower than Intel (AMD 2.6GHz vs Intel 3.0GHz just as an example) it didnāt mean worse or anything, but personally I like a higher number more:P and rather than try both and spend a whole bunch of money, I stick to what I already know, and I like to save as much money as possible.
Though, like your decision to go big I too feel you might as well, for that same reason to not spend even more money later. Not that I would go with the latest and greatest like the CPUās that cost over $1000. Would never do that unless they all end up being that price one day(Like what video cards get up to these days. I payed about $1000 for the GTX690 which has 2 GPUās on it, and at the time two 680ās cost around $500 so that was a reasonable price for me. Then I bought the 1080ti Hybrid at around 1,200(gulp!) and it only has 1 GPU. Thatās what I would accept, if its the only way). I know I could of gone with the 1030 or the like, or waited and got the 1600 series but they didnāt exist yet and I donāt like to skimp on quality or performance.
Interesting, I didnāt know that. Mind you, I donāt usually look into something I didnāt intend to buy. Maybe one day Iāll try it out. Iāve always wanted to put together a computer to handle all the tech in my house, a āHouse-Brainā I like to call it, one that has no video card(onboard will suffice), no sound card, no cards in general. Just very minimal for cost and energy savings. Itāll be easier when I have my own place I donāt have to ask permission to tinker with.
One day:P
p.s. Also getting back to my cracked headset, I was given a couple options and made my decision. Just going to lightly superglue, and Electrical Tape the cracks. Donāt want to spend more money, nor have to wait over a month to get a new headset that might end up cracking all over again. Thanks for the help in this feedback post:)
Amd is really starting to gain speed on cpu market again. Interestingly it was Amd and other clones like Cyrix(sp?) That were prior to intel started putting cache memory on CPUs during the 486 era. They also had x3 & x4 cpus. Where as Intel had say 486 dx2(25mhz) 50mhx. Amd and others had 486 dx4(25mhz) 100mhz
Crazy, yeah my grandparents had a 386 when I was growing up. My uncle had Doom on a floppy disk and had to boot it through dos to get it working properly, haha. Those were the days:P I know Iām not the most knowledgeable with technology, most of it is what Iāve picked up along the way. Heck even the A+ certification book I ready though around 1999/2000 has no clue of what exists today:P.
Mostly, I know what to do with hardware, but I donāt as much know the specific workings of them. Makes perfect sense actually, when I read Cyrix(sp?) and x3 & x4 cpus, I didnāt know anything, but 486 dx2 I recognized right away though I havnāt spent a lot of time learning any of the details. I was probably about 11 years old or younger when my grandparents had the 386.
I have been skimming through any news I can find though, I donāt believe everything I read, but Megagames.com has been one of the main news sites I go to. AMD might make a comeback one day. Iāve always thought technology has to have an endpoint. How fast do things really need to be, and if its not, finding a new path, like when 4:3 became 16:9 before they went back to quality, and upped resolution, Intel will just be a different side to the same coin. I think both AMD and Intel have there pluses and minuses. Thatās where variety is good, not something people need fight over which is better.
Very true no real need to fight/fanboy either. But Amd is making an aggressive come back. Each side has strengths in itās respective cpu instruction set. The same is somewhat true with Nvidia vs Amd(ATI).
It would be great to have a dual processor board that could use best of both worlds. Some Amd GPU users years ago found that they could use physX/cuda with having an Nvidia onboard gpu in some games. Til Nvidia fixed this later. But who knows if the mgpu between architectures can work again.
But here is some stats in Amd Cpu comeback numbers.
Interesting, yeah I read through it, and thatās crazy, 25,000 compared to 5,000? I wonder though how it came by those numbers. I always question the details, cause anything could be the reason. Like what if itās just what things have come to. A new processor that claims itās what speed it is, and it just so happens thousands of people happen to be waiting for something claiming to be better.
I know I donāt really know enough to make a smart opinion. Itās just, I believe numbers like benchmark numbers and how many people base every decision off that number or fight over who has the highest, does not mean itās the end-all be-all. Unless people just play it like a game, like people that play WOW or similar just to see numbers fly up all the time and there only working towards what the number represents, winning. Real world application is usually the thing I base my opinion on. However, this could also be a sign of things to come, maybe with all the jumps ahead AMD are getting theyāll be in a place to squash Intel. At least for a few cycles:P
Time will tellā¦
Anyways, I think Iām all opinioned out, haha. This conversation was fun. Havenāt chatted online like this in a long time so, Iām curious if Iāll be this focused again:P
No Problem. Always great having stimulating conversation. I think the numbers might be based on a computer chain. I do have a friend whom is an advisor of Amd. Numbers could also be based on quarterly sales growth. Plus if you add which platform would you choose Intel for Integrated Graphics or Amd?
Iād probably stick with Intel, though if Iām looking into it more as an idea for a computer to manage my home, either or. Whichever one I am most comfortable with at time of set-up ,which might not be for a couple more years. So who knows where technology will be by then.
Just a followup that Iām satisfied with the arrangement Pimax and I agreed on regarding my cracking 5k+. Support was prompt, too, once I figured out how to contact them.
I have a new VR game, watching the replacement of my RMA cracked headset try to reach me in Norway, so far 19 days and
Hong Kong->Japan->France->Germany->Norway->France->Denmark
One top left part cracked on my 5k+ unit, and I opened a ticket. It is small hole, and does not look like it will grow, for now. What are my options? I really hate to be without headset more than a few days.
I wish my warranty last longer, so I can get 8kx after some positive reviewsā¦
Iām actually in a similar position except Iām not a backer or the first owner as I purchased mine second hand.
I started another thread before I realised this thread was here and Pimax staff asked me to send pics by PM which I did and also posted in that thread.
In response to my PM I was told to contact support which I have done and so far I have only received a generic reply started with āDear Userā asking for my order details.
So Iām just trying to find out if it is possible for me to obtain spare parts or if there are any repair options available and Iām operating under the assumption that I am no longer covered by warranty because even though this unit would be under the original warranty if I was the original owner, I bought it second hand.
Iāll keep the thread updated so others have an idea what options people out of warranty might have.
hi @jaysm
Sorry to hear that, Iām glad I did not send mine in yet, as I would probably be in the same situation.
What version of the HMD did they send (is it a 5K+) if so what model 203 or 204 ?
Would you be able to tell me the average turn-around time for a replacement HMD?
Apologies if this is covered in the thread, already, I did search.
Originally contacted Pimax in Nov/Dec about cracked 5K+
My last contact from Pimax, after confirming with them that I do not want to take any offered upgrade/etc, and simply wanted my cracked Pimax 5k+ replaced, was a short email saying that they āwould apply a return labelā ⦠but I donāt know what that means, I havenāt been asked for my address nor given an address to send my cracked HMD to.
I understand there is new year, and a lot going on in China, so Iām not stroppy about taking too long - Iām just wondering what the average time frame is
Thanks if you can help, itās difficult for my to get online these days for me, sometimes, so I tend to just ask a random question here then dissapear but I do appreciate any and all replies
