Friendly Advice With Sugar On Top: Do NOT Go For The 8K!

No I don’t. Have a look again at my comparison pics from my original review. These are all through the lens pictures.

Agreed. @mixedrealityTV is like anyone in this regard. He is just making his Reccommendations based on his experiences & preference. Most of us understand this.

Both have benefits & disadvantages. Both have potential good & bad due to panel strengths & weaknesses.

The simple truth if your only getting 1 headset it will be nice as you don’t have both to compare.

Yes thanks Sebastian, but I am fully aware of all the disadvantages of the 8k compared to the 5k+. It’s a difficult balancing for me with top priority on sde, blacklevel and maximum brightness. Sorry I can’t get out of repeat mode

Screw this… Im getting 5k+ all over again now. God damn it, been switching 8k to 5k+ back and forward for a while now. 5k+ be it…

Hum… very interesting, by the way although fewer in numbers I found your thru the lens captures the best of the bunch in term of what we now call “clarity”

Thanks!

Oh and please stop telling the 5K+ is better than the 8K, I think I will dream about that tonight :joy:
your “clarity” about this topic is most clear!

Okay, I just needed to clarify again. Not that anyone could say they had not been filled in beforehands. Just want to help you guys for the decision. I don’t need to do that all here, but I do it for the community and since I am one if the few that can actually compare the devices.

Are those black dots really noticeable? That’s the only thing bothering me. Will the color adjustment correct that at all?

Again, I don’t have those black dots. See my through the lens pictures.

Thanks for the recommendation.
Only thing I still consider the 8k is SDE.

But according to you it’s quite a minimal difference?
If that’s the case then yeah 5k+ is the obvious choice.

Essentially key benefits of the 5k+

  • Sharper font Rendering for Desktop use (but neither quite there) going by all the reviewers so far. (Fonts render better on standard 90° grid)
  • Graphic modeling (no brainer 1:1 pixel ratio) but as @aesopfabled it’s important to have proper color accuracy & not just warm & cold.

Yep, it’s minimal and the other pros of the 5K Plus easily outweigh this.

This of course is the interesting thing. All other testers noticed dots & seb doesn’t.

Just look at my through the lens pics. I saw that other picture that was posted here and it does not look like anything I would see through the lens.

Did Robin mention if there sound be specific fixed color presets for the 5k+ or will users be able to fine tune colors? Like how we can calibrate our monitor for example.

if you look at Sweviver video thru the lens and you consider only the green channel the 8K has more diagonal SDE that the corresponding vertical/horizontal SDE on the 5K+. So it’s a mix bag… if you still want the 8K wait before finalizing your choice, we will see in the coming weeks if variation between the headsets can explain some of the difference describe in the reviews

Then stop switching and make decisions man!
2080ti with 5k+ it’s going to be!

For me it sounded more like they are simply gonna adjust the color profile. Did not sound like it would be something that users could do themselves.

@mixedrealityTV - Can you comment on the ‘5k black dot pattern’ that SweViver has mentioned? He seems to be the only reviewer who is complaining about it… Are you 100% sure you are not seeing any such black dots (on orange/skin tones) in your 5k?

Did you ask Robin if he was still confident they will get the headset to backers before Christmas?
