Not sure how that matters? The pimax 5k is very close to the Vive Pro in terms of SDE. The Pimax 4k is also LCD, so that’s why this is relevant, it shows the potential of the Pimax 8k. In fact, the Pimax 8k should have been this good.
Small FoV mode would be roughly equal to 1 Qhd panel for better compare to Vive Pro.
Comparing sub pixel density with approximately same FoV.
It’s said to be better with less resolution in the same FoV area. So like Psvr vs og Vive & Rift. This is due to sub pixel matrix 2 vs 3. In sde comparison.
We need to compare Rgb panels with Rgb.
This is also why StarVR is getting a nicer picture on their specialized RGB-W? Oled panels. If they had used Pentile it would look horrendous.
Which is better than what? I’m not following you, can you explain please?
RGB subpixel layouts are more dense than PenTile layout used for OLED displays (RGBG is better, but still not great). When you magnify them with the lenses, they make giant (comparatively) black lines in a grid pattern. That’s the SDE folks hate about Gen1 HMDs. Simply switching to RGP stripe (whether square or diagonal) greatly decreases SDE. And as @Heliosurge has pointed out, 1440p PenTile is like 1080p (not exactly, but close enough) RGB in terms of clarity / actual resolution.
Edit: see below
Sub pixel resolution plays a very important role.
Here is an Article explaining why psvr has virtually no sde compared to og vive & rift. 3 sub pixels vs 2.
We agree there of course. I just don’t see how it matters in this discussion can you explain that? I thought the Pimax 8k was merely an improvement of the Pimax 4k panel (both coming from Sharp, I think just a newer iteration)
You are comparing 4k rgb to pentile oled to show the 4k scaling better than on the 8k.
To compare it properly like 5k+ vs 8k; you need to compare 2 Rgb panels & not am Rgb vs a lower res pentile.
An Rgb lcd panel will look better in terms of sde in a headset vs pentile oled.
EDiT: Sharp is now HiSense
Eh? Both Pimax 4k and Pimax 8k are LCD, not oled
Now your getting it. Comparing your Vive Pro to the 4k; the 4k will look better.
Compare the 4k to an 1440p lcd headset or even the lenovo lcd wmr hesdset you will get a more accurate compare. Rgb vs rgb.
A Pentile 1440p like your Deepoon will not have the same image quality as an rgb lcd 1440p. In terms of sub pixel density.
If your Vive Pro was RGB matrix it would blow the 5k+ away due to higher pixel & sub pixel density. It doesn’t due to only having higher pixel but lower sub pixel res.
My point is that everybody seems to agree that Pimax 5k is more or less on par with the VIve Pro in terms of SDE. On some pics the Pimax 5k looks slightly better, on other pics the Vive pro, but in general they seem to be very close. That is why I think it’s a fair comparison. You could also of course just compare the Pimax 4k pics I’ve shot to the Pimax 8k as posted by the musketeers. Pimax 4k looks way better.
Everybody , really ? I’m not. In my opinion Pimax 5K+ looks like 50 % better when we are talking about SDE, and yes I had Vive Pro on my head.
Is worth to mention that some shots from reviews was taken with probably large/normal FOV that’s mean there is less supersampling added to 5k+. With the same amount of supersampling like in small fov Vive Pro the difference in panels would be even more obvious.
Well just check out the pics posted by the musketeers. In some Vive Pro is better, in others Pimax 5k is better. That you’ve had a HMD on your head doesn’t mean much. Even when you have one at home it might be difficult to compare unless directly switching them.
But it’s really besides the point. The point is that the pimax 4k images I’ve posted is much better than anything that was posted on the Pimax 8k. Not sure why some people want to fight details instead of seeing that.
The problem with us even doing through the lens shots is that to produce repeatable results we would want to use the same camera & settings with a rig to ensure distance of camera lens to headset lens.
I dud some through the lens shots with default settings on hellbalde & tbh the 8k shot @sweviver looks better imho.
But to do a better compare the log ride pic I did would be a good one if @SweViver could do the same pic. However I am using an LG G6 & he has a S8.
tell me which pics are better for you ?
Isn’t subjectivity great?
Yeah saw those and really thought they were HORRIBLE. You posted some totally unsharp fuzzy images. Try shooting them sharp first. What you posted doesn’t even look close to what you see when you put on the Pimax 4k. Sorry.
Because you haven’t posted direct 8k pics to compare & your camera could be improving your shots as most do auto improvements.
Show me 1 pimax 8k pic that looks in your ‘subjectivity’ better than the Pimax 4k pics I’ve posted
I’ve used the EXACT same cam as Sweviver (galaxy s8+)
