First Impressions of the X from a person that doesn't care about color and doesn't see distortion from the 5K+

Perceived FoV is equal to or less than Rendered FoV.

AMD have had issues turning raw computational power into fps before too.
The TFLOPS -> fps ratio is not comparible between AMD and Nvidia so only non-synthetic game benchmarks will be reliable.
Be nice to see some competition again, I miss the GPU arms race.

No, for me there is hardly any difference between normal and large. I am close to the lenses, for me Large is almost like Ambilight.
I draw my perceived perspective on a sheet in front of me and measure, it is 158-160 degrees for me with a normal field of vision. consequently for me personally, large must be over 160 degrees.

The perceived value in the broad field of vision is individual and is only roughly common with the technical one.

Which still is less than or equal to actual rendered FoV. As mentioned there are pics you can use in VD to also verify.

Now yes not everyone has the Average/max full 220 FoV due to a variety of individual factors.

here in Germany we have a saying that if there are not 100% precisely defined values available (in this case the head)

„Wer misst misst Mist“

Misst = measures
Mist = shi*

I’ve been building laser projectors for over 20 years.
I guess I have a basic understanding of optics and angles.

Sure you may think you see more than there is.

exactly;) possible that the marketing director at Pimax and the StarVR think the same way.

That’s why you want to differentiate between “observed” and “perceived”. But yet again, I read a lot of perceived in the last handfull of posts.

Thermal testing the 8K-X incoming (once I get the headset). Unfortunately, I can’t make any thermal comparisons with the 5K+ since I had the 8K.

From what I have read people recommend using the Wabbajack mod autoinstaller (for ease of use) or Nexus mods (for lots of content). The following topics by @Fresco might be helpful.

No, it is an X…
I’ll leave now

Oh I’m definitely interested in Thermal test, I don’t know why sometimes my X runs okay and sometimes i gets warmer than i’d like.

:joy: :joy:

Sorry for jumping in so late, but here are my thoughts about your config:

Your gpuSpeedRenderTargetScale is only 0.35999… which makes the SteamVR dashboard (overlays) look ugly. The number here is based upon the value of “gpuSpeeedHorsepower”, which itself is based on the 10 gpuSpeed (gpuSpeed0 to gpuSpeed9) values that are generated by your GPU benchmark upon every SteamVRE startup. This is why I have mentioned many times to change all 10 gpuSpeed values to 1500 or 2000. It will push your gpuSpeedRenderTargetScale to 1.5 or at least 1.0 that looks way better in the dashboard.

Also, disable advanced supersample filtering. It does make a difference on clarity when looking at gauges etc. Especially when LargeFOV or/and PP is on.

This will be set automatically (or manually) by VR Experience of course.

Is the delivery schedule of your PVRE still good for July? I am so anxious to try it, can I be a tester? I think this is on par with the work @mirage335 has done in terms of adding value to the Pimax product. Well that and the ability to run Oculus games too actually. Awesome stuff! I hope management will recognize you for this too.

About the Pimax VR Experience; does it ask for permissions to modify files? And would other VR headsets that also use SteamVR be affected by those changes? It shouldn’t be a problem for those of us who have several.

Valid question/concern.
@sweviver is there going to be a reset to defaults button? (regarding the modified files)

No, no, better one “leave as it was found” checkbox, @SweViver . I maybe leave some changes in that files.

I’ll change it but whenever I change my GPU render target scale it changes itself back, the highest I got it was 0.56ish.

For GPUSpeed I can change it to 2000, but GPUSpeed 10 will always change itself back.

No worries your understandably busy with various parts of the project.

A simple script to overwrite the settings file we could likely create for folks pre Experience release as I am sure some have done so already.

I believe so yes, although the online profile part will not be included in the first releases, as its really far from done yet. Im getting a little late to get all things done… The last weeks I have found many things to improve and change on the current Alpha. The VR Exp might not look so complicated, but it really is a challenge for me to get all functions to execute correctly, and make it reliable and free of bugs here and there… Im working on it on full time, basically every day.

Its a little complicated, as there are many ways to do this. But there will be options so you can choose whenever SteamVR settings are supposed to be made automatically (upon game start) or not.
Also, for whatever change is made, there is always a backup file made and stored for instant recover.

Yes, as said, new backup file (date and time stamp) is created and can be selected and reverted to, at any point.

Hmm, Im not following you here? Sorry too much coding eats my brain lately

At one point PiTool was supposed to become open source. The VR exp being a virtual extension to PiTool would surely be part of the open source package I reckon?
