I’m one of the 8KX Backer from Japan.
I was just an PIMAX4K user until now.
Today I received PIMAX VISION 8KX and play AutoMobilista2 on VR.
First impression is very good.
Easy to set up, Easy to use.
There is no screen door effect.
The display brightness dynamic range is bit narrow.
I adjusted the contrast and brightness settings on Pitool, but that wasn’t enough.
I think it is necessary to control about the gamma curve.
I don’t know if it is possible or not.
No drawing delay and so Smooth. It is very good frame rate on my Geforce 1070Ti GPU.
No lens distortion.
There is chromatic aberration.I don’t care about it.
The IPD adjustment is so easy. nice.
IPD setting was weird when I used the PIMAX 4K.
but this time it’s perfect.
SMAS is just convenient to use.
The volume is set to maximum, but I felt the sound was a little low.
The volume cannot be raised anymore.
I tried to add a USB amplifier, but the left and right cables are too short, Connection is a bit difficult for me.
I would normally use my headphones.
If you want to use headphones, you should select SMAS model not a DMAS.
I don’t have a base station so I can’t setup 6dof tracking.
The gyro is stable. no problem. nice.
Congrats! If you are not waiting for basestations and controllers from Pimax then best order basestations and optimally Index controllers asap (best directly at Valve) to place yourself in the queue, it can take months until they arrive. Almost as expensive as the 8kX pledge, I know, but imho worth it!
Or, if you are lucky you can get a cheap used gen1 Vive bundle somewhere. The Index controllers are a lot better than the wands, but if the price it right this might still be worth consideration (particularly if you are a sim fan and the controllers aren’t as important for you - but 6dof is definitely adding a lot to the experience!).
If you backed the full package you can create a ticket with pimax to send you the base stations now. Also, there may still be the option to pay extra and get the Index controllers instead of Pimax so you get them now as well.
