removing the pictures, problem is probably solved, sorry for hijacking the thread
Thank you. describes the situation better than any words.
Edit:
Is it removeable or included in the hmd Modul?

on the picture it looks like it might be removeable but iâd prefer to hear from other 8kx owners if they have the same issue.
no, i still get the device not found when trying to install firmware
iâm not sure what yop mean with reversible, is what reversible?
âremoveableâ was the right word.
yeah, sorry for stirring up a storm. once I looked at the picture with the enlargement I realized it might be and it turns out it was. a foam plug with some sticky stuff on the backside.
did you successfully update ?
also was your eyetracker listed as droolon before you tried to update it?
to be fair, it turns out to be a removable foam plug. assuming youâre talking about my eyetracker mounting issue
So is this firmware the same one that was offered to those that couldnât get their computer to recognize the eye tracker as âdroolon piâ or whatever?
My computer already recognizes the eye tracker, the problem is the calibration software.
All right, then. However, I am extremely annoyed by the fact that apparently nothing works with pimax and the user still has to search for solutions. No documentation, no information. Without a community nobody would use a pimax anymore
Yeah, thatâs hard to disagree with. I was p*ssed for a moment there.
Yeah, that was a bit useless to me because I could not mount it like they did. Itâs sorted now though, thanks.
My unit arrived on July 22, and my unit was already firmware that recognized it as a droolon pi. Who will need to update this firmware? It would be helpful if Pimax would clarify the updates and present the importance of the updates.
I also think there should be a dedicated Eytracking support page with installation instructions and FAQs for both hardware and software.
The package I received contained only one completely useless installation guide, and there should be a measure to include a piece of paper showing a QR code to direct you to the support page. As it stands, I believe very few customers will be able to get to the information they need.
Most of you whine that Pimax doesnât deliver KS goals quickly.
If they try to rush & delivery without enough QA & software hardening you start whine that product isnât finished, has no guides, instructions etc.
I couldnât remember but how much time Valve took to develop âHL3â, they just doesnât promise anything & keep working & QA behind the scene until they are confident that the product is polished enough to be sent to the public. Well I guess itâs not that hard once you have $$$ & good team with many years of experience that they got after releasing nice games back in 199x & then did steam which supplies them with enough cash to do experiments.
Just realize that Pimax is just at their begging path, put low expectations & consider poor software & delays from the beginning.
There are definitely people who want to get the product as soon as possible & tinker & test it like devs, enthusiasts etc. Donât buy it on the day 1 if youâre average user who wants hassle free product. Once itâs more or less stable & got community feedback buy if you wish (like was with Pimax 5k+/8k & I would say with Artisan (good value for money)).
There were several reports that people got it to work, but obviously it has significant issues with software & firmware parts, considering that there are 2 companies work simultaneously on this product while Pimax canât do everything flawless on their own product alone (although they started to do much better in HMD development department & in Pitool as well - GPU utilization is a good one).
I guess there will be a lot of baited people & disappointed due to bad launch date quality due to their marketing strategy & need of funds.
It is justified on items like the MAS and the HT which was supposed to be available upon the headset release. Even the face foam and pieces of content that didnât require dev time.
Yes it seems they have rushed the ET out much like they did with the 8k+ advertising for months the 110hz feature that hadnât been implemented/enabled.
I like my pimax headset however a lot of angst from backers and pre orders is quite reasonable. Especially the case cracking and delaying the controllers in favor of other projects.
I understand that by funding KS campaign you were told to get complete product which you can use without the need to buy additional pieces.
However Vive DAS (which includes OK audio) + any VRCover work quite good. At least waiting wasnât so bad & you could sell Vive DAS then if you donât need it anymore.
The most crucial was HMD itself & the firmware/software coz without it it wasnât possible to use product for long time.
I have different HMDs & apart of Valve Index default foams are quite poor quiality so I always needed to look for some third party solutions to mod & enhance the comfort (expect CV1 it was excellent the only foam was a problem). Like with Quest, O+.
Comfort from out of the box was ok in Vive Pro, CV1, Rift S I guess thatâs all, Index too heavy for me & requires at least counter weight.
If all those old companies struggle to provide universal solution I wasnât surprised to see a Vive Pro clone strap as HTC put a lot of effort & R&D in there. Just compare the complexity of highly canted HMD with wide FOV & the required R&D that they needed to do to cover different cases.
It just doesnât fit my mind why they avoided Eye Relief cheap adjustment on any their HMD, with their default thick comfort kit it would be a dream
Just got my eye tracker yesterday. But think Iâll wait with applying it until I got a DFR capable GPU. (As I understand it, adding it to the 8kX without an RTX card only brings disadvantages like reflections from the glass without any benefits?) Until then the dust has hopefully settled regarding driver issuesâŚ
