Deluxe Modular Audio Headstrap (DMAS)

Have you considered an option to allow the speakers to be snapped to the ears? I would imagine a small change in the design would allow the DMAS to be an on-ear as well as off-ear solution. I’m sure many people will appreciate an on-ear quality audio solution.

KDMAS is the on ear solution, DMAS is the slightly over ear solution and SMAS is the budget above ear solution. It’s modular so there can be more.

Yes, but as the early reviews suggest the KDMAS is not exactly a quality solution. So there is only the DMAS. But it is off-ear. So for now the DAS remains the best audio option for the people who do not want a leaky audio.
I would imagine it would not be so hard to allow the headphones of the DMAS to be moved closer or further from the ear like the DAS ones. That would solve this artificially created problem with the audio.

That is not at all what the early reviews suggest. The KDMAS is quite awesome and an upgrade to the Vive DAS. For best quality use the Y adapter and plug into the left audio jack. Those that weren’t impressed did not have it connected that way.

Uhm… Where are the other reviews? So I can react in time.

I’m quite annoyed by all this tbh. At first when I ordered “Deluxe Audio Strap” for the 8kX I didn’t even expect this will be an issue. Then it took some time to piece together the info so I contacted support to ask for a KDMAS. But then after the reviews came out I opened another ticket to reverse that and ask for the DMAS instead. Now you are telling me the KDMAS is the one I want so I should open a 3rd ticket about this… I can’t understand why does it need to be so hard to get a proper audio solution for a 1400 euro headset.

I posted some in another thread but suffice it to say that almost all of those who have the KDMAS connected as described are quite happy with it, even VoodooDe who’s original review wasn’t positive. The drivers are superior to the vive das imho.

However if you want the best we have you will want the DMAS. I think most people will agree it is the best we will offer.

@prinyo I feel most people are tired of waiting. What you would like to do is cause more delays. The head strap that came with my 8K+ is very small and I hate to use earplugs. Let me order the DMAS and then they can improve it.

KDMAS is the on ear solution
DMAS is off ear like the index
DMAS is a higher quality sound than the KDMAS
theres no on ear solution to the DMAS I assume because the driver is made to be off ear so it would probably sound bad or wierd

But it is off-ear leaky audio, so that disqualifies it completely for many users. It would have been nice if this info was included when we ordered the headset.

It seems I’m going to open another ticket and ask for the KDMAS again, I have no use for the DMAS anyway.

Not sure how you got this idea. What I want is for them to offer an adequate audio solution for the very expensive headset after they collected $100 payments for a “deluxe audio headstrap” with no info about it.

Yes, we know. There is nothing new in what you said.

If you knew why did you have to change your order 3 times

I know you perfer an on-ear audio solution, but the Index-like audio solution that they are offering in the DMAS would have to be considered a way more than adequate audio solution. If it really does sound as good or better than the Index, then it will be considered a gold standard by a lot of people (maybe even most) just like the Index sound is. I know not everyone likes that solution but that still doesn’t make it any less impressive. I personally loved the Index sound and it is the one thing that I miss from my Index after having moved to the 8KX.

I’m looking forward to the DMAS very much. That said, I have my computer set up in my audio studio. So I use a pre-amp for audio in and out and I’ve found my AKG studio headphones fit nicely over the SMAS it came with. I also use an over the ear clip SHURE microphone. The sound is great this way but it does l get a bit unwieldy so I’m really looking forward to the DMAS solution.

The off-ear solution can not be a standard for VR because it makes no sense and is objectively a bad solution. If any other company but Valve introduced it for PC VR there would have been stronger backlash.

  1. Conceptually - It is good and makes sense for AR, but not for VR. Why would you block the environment visually, but not the sound? It makes no sense whatsoever.

2, In practice - it breaks immersion by letting the RL sounds infiltrate the VR world. I realize many people think that Beat Saber = VR and other play mostly loud games. but for people who are lookin for immersive experiences the off-ear sound is a very bad option.

  1. It breaks positional audio. For example there is a very nice and well working mod for Skyrim that makes the different sounds come from the appropriate direction. This is broken with off-ear audio.

There is no way for off-ear audio to be better for VR, it is the worst option in all regards.

ok so they maade the KDMAS for people who want the on ear solution. whats the complaint about even???

I receieved it yesterday.
I just tried it and I must admit the sound is actually surprising, might even have too much basses lol.
I think I will design a 3D model of something to make ear cups closer to the ears (something to add between the hearphones and the cup to gain about 1 cm or two for better pressure on the ears.
I wasnt expecting this sound since my own Headstrap upgrade with headphone actually sound much better than the DAS.
About comfort I am not sure, the comfort kit is still not “that” good to me, with the tick foam, if not very tight the distortion is awful so have to tight it and there are not enough pressure on the fronthead, still need a part just like I designed to add on the strap so it rest a bit more on the fronthead.

@apachesquirrel beat You to it…

Maybe he’ll share his design so You can go from there…?

Yeah well, I had it yesterday so…
The model is not shared yet?

Something else, have to be careful removing the adapter for non vision headsets because it was hard to remove and it actually damaged a bit my headset :sob:
Why did I removed it? Well…I prefer my own design of upgraded headstrap actually…and I have the old narrow one.

I can never understand what makes people post in threads without even reading them first.

One of the things that made me reconsider the KDMAS is people’s impression that it is not really “on-ear”. It is just “closer-to-ear” than the DMAS, but still far from really been on-ear.
Your impressions seem to confirm that, so it seems none of the straps is actually on-ear? And you need to 3d print stuff to fix it. But then it is maybe a better idea to think how to fix the DMAS instead as it already has better sound?

Well, it IS on the ears but the pressure is not enough to me.
You know, for instance gamers headphones have huge foam that press on the ears and with the KDMAS the pressure is not there, to me it just touch them only, when I apply for slight pressure it much better.
