[Controller progress] Let us know your thoughts!

I would rather wait for a fully functional/tested knuckle controller. Surely some extra time to prototype designs would be good anyway. Also I think cap sense on the middle finger instead of the button would be a much better choice.

Do a survey again then, because Iā€™d rather get mine before. Itā€™s no use staying with the headset without the controllers, if it takes a long time to receive them.

i want to receive the full package the same time, because having a headset without controllers we cant do nothing. dont send the headset without controllers please.

Everyone has clearly his/hers preferences, but what Pimax is doing is not unreasonable. If they know already, they will not have the software ready for all the features and they are telling us that in advance it is a good sign that at least they are honest.

The question whether they could make it work later on is always legit, but delaying everything for just the last function to work perfectly is not very practical as it may take another several months to debug and fine tune all the details. Look at Valve and their ā€œfine tuningā€.

Anyway the controllers are expected to be available in April (my estimate is more June/July). People who opted for the full package delivered at once have still some time to kill and many things may change until then so I would not stress this point to much.

On the other hand, if Pimax come up in April with the same proposal, I would probably take the controllers (even knowing some features are not working) instead waiting for the perfect product (and not being able to use any controller at all).

Thanks, @Matthew.Xu:

What still worries me is if the controller will remain fixed by itself at hand, and if we can open and close the hand without dropping the controller, in order to have the functions of catching, releasing or throwing by opening or closing the hand, without use any button, as it does or will do the ā€œknucklesā€.

It would be like this?

If you need to change the survey, send an email to support@pimaxvr.com.

I would be a little disappointed if they could not get it working in later software updates.
It is something they promised to backers and I think 5 finger tracking is a truly immersive advancement for VR.

But I think its a good solution to make the controllers with the cap sense implemented even if the software isnā€™t fully functional when we receive them. That way we can have ergonomic controllers that should feel great in the hand and be at least equal in tech to all other controllers currently with the advantage of being updated to be the best of the best in the future.

They confirmed there would be elastic straps in the Kickstarter campaign and @Matthew.Xu has confirmed the controllers will have straps to hold the controller on the hand.

@Matthew.Xu

Elastic straps will be included like Valve Knuckleā€™s. Correct?

Pls try to stick with the Valve Button layout because most people will use steam to play their games and therefore we need a consistent Button Layout. Also you may rethink the positioning of the Buttons. I made this picture to expalin.

As you can see if you have 2 Buttons on the same side of the controller you have to form a claw with your thumb to reach the second Button which is very bad and not very ergonomic to say the least.

The trapeziometacarpal (TMC) joint on your thumb allows your thumb to rotate some degrees which i indicated by the red line.
Along this red line you want to place the center of the Trackpad and the Buttons because it guarantees that you can operate the Trackpad and Buttons with a relaxed thumb. Everything off the red line leads to a lot of stress for your thumb and must be prevented. The only Button that should be off the red line should be the System Button and it should be located below the Trackpad. Easier to reach and keeps us from hitting the System Button accidentally.

You can watch movies and VR-porn, play VorpX games, ProjectCars, Elite Dangerous, Luckyā€™s Tale and many other VR projects without any knuckles.

Honestly I greatly prefer Oculus touch button placement to the side of the thumbstick it is very comfortable and there is no need to reach for the buttons (A,B,X,Y).

I would think having to press the inner face buttons would cause pain in the thumb or wrist and prefer the style of the oculus touch.

I hate the fact weā€™re still talking about A,B,X,Y.
A motion controller should have very few buttons and devs should finally implement hand gestures instead of using shitty button based interactions (ā€˜press X to reloadā€™, FFS?).

These are not gamepads.

Thatā€™s only sort of true. Hand gestures can be useful, but they also tend to be much more cumbersome. Buttons can let you easily access several minor, but important, actions quickly, particularly if those actions donā€™t have good physical analogs, like opening up menus or talking to NPCs.

We will consider such a design, but not fully emulating Valveā€™s style. Our design team and the hardware team worked very hard because we wanted to make a PIMAX style controller.

But then the controller will remain caught by itself when we open our hand or not?
If they are not compatible with wands or knuckles, what will they serve us?

It is a simple question to answer , I want to know too.

Just send mine in April/2018. The headset without controllers is incomplete, despite we can play some games only seated.

@Matthew.Xu Have you guys looked at the grip style shape @Digital was talking about here? Because that would go a long way to differentiate it from anything else on the market and it would be interesting to hear someone elseā€™s thoughts on that shape, even if you ultimately decide itā€™s not a good design.

I agree that more games should use your actions instead of binding things to buttons, but at the same time who the heā€™ll cares about what the buttons are called.

I preferably like the way Oculus has done this. It makes the designs feel more premium as well.

I think itā€™s better to call them A or B than inner button or bottom button.
