CES 2018 - 8K Prototype details

So I have to wait now for months LOL… not the initial idea IMO, Do not you realize that now Pimax had millions for this project. And to clarify, kickstarter is not Pimax. Pimax already exist before this 8K project. They are a company with this new model and a lot more money. Please do not start to defend what they are mean to do. (sorry for my bad english, it is not my native language)

Hmm how can I say this…

  1. I would love to have the best asap too, but qualitiy takes time - so please let them take the time.
2nd) The initial idea of Kickstart (ing) is to show your support and interest in founding development of projects. Thats what we did - no matter if its the first HMD ever or just the first “8K” HMD by some existing Company - its the project that matters. We are granted to recieve the “items” in the goals if all goes well, in some time frame mentioned, but actually we might as well get nothing at all - which is quite worse thant a better product 2 Month later.
Pleas read the Kickstart “Help” Section, it clearly says that kickstart is not a shop, and the rest… .

They are the first interested in the project going well, because they have much to gain or lose. I am convinced that they do everything they can; A good example has been trying to fix this problem that has come up with the chip, instead of serving it as is. There is no better chip and it is clear that they have seen that with the current hardware the old chip will not be able to comply, so they will have to modify the hardware.
I think that two months (maybe less) of margin can be worth it. There are much simpler projects that have been delayed much longer than they ask.

And yes, everybody would love to have the best asap too.

It is assumed that the shipments of the 8k are delayed because it still does not reach the 90hz but what happened with the 5k version? those also have problems or will those be delivered on time?

They’re currently only stable to 80hz http://community.openmr.ai/t/ces-2018-8k-prototype-details/4802/29

Prepare to be disappointed considering they’re reaching a conclusion in March. Expect that to be the end of March and then they still need to produce the HMD if of course they that don’t need to prototype again.

September is when I “hope” to see my pledge. I’m way back on the list though so October? Anything earlier is a bonus.

The problem of the 80hz, is only on the pimax 8k or the problem is on the 5k too?

I hope you are wrong man

You won’t be able to tell the difference from 80-90hz

It affects both. The 5k is stable at a touch higher than the 8k. They both have the same input res & bridge chip. The 8k just had 2 4k panels & an upscaler.

I’m 8 k backer … I’m fine with waiting for a more polished product . I have vive so waiting doesn’t bother me as much. I knew going in that 8k might not be delivered on schedule.

For this reason a comparative test with other current headsets would be very welcome.

I will ask to have my headset in March.

I believe except some minority a lot of people pledged assuming they would like to get the headset no later that spring or begining of summer!

Lets make a poll and you will see the result (assuming more than 20 percent of pledgers would vote to have a healty result)

Pimax should do its best not to delay the hmd if they want a commercial success unless they are ok with the degree of their 4k model’s success, which is just a small one with max 40.000 sales so far I presume.

“Take all your time” is not a correct approach and simply it is naviety!

We need more info, opennes, and updates to accept any further delays…

I started with Spectrum 16 and Commodore 64. and true all stages or Home computer progresion with all hardware upgrades like from casset recorder to Floppy disc or external HDD for Amiga 1200, first PC 386 when Doom was release, first DVD-R which was cost more than today’s killer gaming rig. I was even developing game for Amiga which was released in the end but to late.
