CES 2018 - 8K Prototype details

I’d like to have it in January (I opted for the temporary 8K until my 8K X is ready), but I’d much rather they not rush it, and get it right.

I have no problem waiting, can I purchase a 5K until the 8K is released? If yes let me know and I will send you my 8K backer number.

Hi all,
Because English is not my native language I do not fully understand this from post from Pimax about delivery.
There will be 2 version hardware for the 8K in the future ? 1 for maybe delivery in January and one
with, I guess, some hardware improvements in march ?
I presume the will not find a software solution on the present prototype V4 regarding the 75-90 stability whitin
a month or so. So will there be an upgrade possible when opting for the first one ? And if so are there some
substantial cost for this upgrade ?

I know this may be asked before but it’s unclear to me.
thanks.
and yes I am a backer.

Im not saying 90Hz is absolutely necessary for the headset, but I would personally prefer to wait a few extra months for a more polished product.

the fact we get the 8K before the 8KX is still awesome, ill wait a year for my 8KX as long as I have the 8K

Hi, @deletedpimaxrep1:

Since the prototype five would already be almost the final version and the last one to be tested, has taken into account leaving enough space for prescription glasses?
Does it really have 200º of FOV?
Does the Brainwarp work?

Thanks!

Lmao how many times you gonna ask the exact same question?

I am a 8k backer w/controllers. I do have the HTC vive and was wondering if anyone knows of a way to have the vive run at say 80hz so that I can see for myself how this looks.

Hmm. I hadn’t thought of this. I’m not sure about other games but I do know that Vivecraft frame rate can be limited. I will try setting to 80 and turning of reprojection later sometime when I get home. If you have Vivecraft or know of another game this could work.

I’ll take 80hz ASAP thanks. I only really play dcs and its usually reprojecting anyway

Just make sure it doesn’t set my face on fire.

There is no way, VIVE is locked at 90hz.

Framerate is not refresh rate.

I am admittedly confused by this. Is refresh rate the amount of frames that a panel can display in 1 sec?

Refresh rate is how fast the screen can change its pixels, frame rate is how fast the game can pump out new frames

So running something locked at 80fps on Vive without any reprojection is no indicator of how VR looks with an 80hz refresh rate? Hell, I thought I was on to something. Thanks for clarification.

It could give you an idea but would not be exactly the same. There are other things like the pixels persistence which will come into at as well.

When the original plan was to ship in January, and now we’re merely “making decisions” (maybe) in March, we should all be concerned.

Being the first SDE free, 200 degree FoV headset on the market is the biggest thing Pimax has going for them. If they let that competitive advantage slip away, this product is doomed.

Everyone who has tried the Pimax8k agrees it is amazing in its current state (now that the IPD issues have been resolved). Most people didn’t even notice the refresh rate limitations until it became a big deal here on the forums.

It’s time to go (even if that means releasing a slightly improved version down the road).

I would put a side note here, we don’t have a independant hand on review done by a pro and with some time to go thru all features so if pimax thinks it should improve prototype v5 we should considered it seriously. Beside most review showed were done with v2 prototype which is absolute not the same design.

One this is a kickstarter project and as others mentioned the proposed ship date is almost always delayed. Better delayed then rush & release a product with issues.

Two please check the other threads; PiMax just picked up another investor. There still currently offering the best res & potenial experience with expandability in mind. :v::sunglasses::+1::sparkles:

I second Heliosurge. I would think sjefdeklerk and crony too would give a brutally honest evaluation, and yet tempered with an industry understanding so as to be fair.

A lot of nipping at the bit here
