Can i use 8k to project my pc screen into it?

I want this headset if I can use it to project my pc screen into it
Is that possible.
Does this come with an operating system like Android to install play store apps?

I use it for rdp and movies simultaneously, splitting my single monitor into two halves for two apps.

Not sure if this is the answer your looking for…

There are currently many options to use a vr headset aa your desktop
Big screen beta free
Virtual toolbox $
Virtual Desktop $ popular
Steamvr interface (a little clunky)

Just to name a few

Cinera headset is something i opted for. It does everything except virtual immersive experience, which I needed.
If pimax 8k could do, i would get immersive experience.
I sold my Hololens as it was having ergonomics issues and technical glitches and too costly.

If pimax has any operating system like Android, it would benefit me.

I don’t game, but work and watch movies on my laptop. Cinera can help as it is Android and supports rdp.

I need a solution with pimax, I want to buy it badly, if it supports my requirements.

If all you want to do is watch movies and have access to your desktop (also remotely) then why bother with VR headset like Pimax? Comparing the Pimax to Cinera is like comparing apples and oranges! Pimax over all is a VR system for running VR apps. Playing movies is secondary. BTW, I looked at Cinera and I think having a mechanical arm to hold the headset to your face is a TERRIBLE idea in my opinion.

The hololens is a standalone device.

Pimax is a device that you need to plug in directly to computer and requires it to operate.

The answer to your question is yes.

With a program like Virtual Desktop (among others), you will be able to display your desktop inside the Pimax 8k on a giant virtual screen.

Compared to the current gen headsets, it will be THE superior way to watch movies, read webpages/docs, etc…

So, i still need a pc…

Can you suggest a laptop future ready for any kind of vr…

…You don’t have a PC?

If all you want to do is watch movies/use the desktop, you don’t need anything super high end.

But if you want a good VR laptop, check Amazon for any “gaming” laptop with at least a GTX 1070 gpu

I have a dell latitude e7440. So, need to buy a good one now soon.

The impression I have gotten is that for a rectangular ‘virtual cinema screen’ at about 66 degrees POV (which is about the most you can see with your optimal ‘focused vision’, as opposed to your ‘peripheral vision’), the Cinera is optimised for that purpose.

It is my current belief that the PIMAX 8K cannot produce a similar quality effect from a portion of its 200 degree full POV. I don’t know whether the PIMAX 8K X can with its more concentrated pixel count.

I don’t know what kind of specifications a PC would need to play a 4K 3D movie on both screens of a PIMAX 8K (or 8K X). If the required specifications for this application are significantly lower than the requirements for the max quality VR experience, then the headsets may appeal to those who don’t have a budget for a top-spec VR-optimised PC, as well as the headset - this is something that I don’t believe has yet been properly clarified.

It’s a shame, as I am very interested in buying a PIMAX 8K or 8K X, and if it could at least match the Cinera as a device for watching 2D and 3D movies on, there would only be a need to buy a single headset. I don’t yet have a PC that could handle the VR side of things, but at least I would be investing in a product that offers an immediate benefit, and a future one.

So far though, PIMAX have not been able to provide a satisfactory explanation of whether the 8K or 8K X can do this - only maintaining that these devices are optimised for an immersive VR experience, using the full 200 degrees (which is an inadequate answer in my view, that doesn’t resolve my query).

If pimax 8k can do that, the buyer base is going to be promising. Because, many are interested in this movie effects too… i think that won’t be a

Hmmm… I can’t see eh

Why it couldn’t as most vr players for standard video/3d video put you in a virtual theater so to speak.

If you have IMax Theater then you can likely go there in the meantime & checkout StarVR which is similarly speced to the 5k model with 210 fov (not available for purchase)

It’s like asking why you want to buy pimax for gaming, can’t you go to a gaming center.

Here, I’m asking for a possibility, if true, takes pimax to a whole new level.

I can invest now and wait till they release it, if they promise this feature.

Moreover, I was a Hololens user.
I used Hololens to work on 2 pcs remotely and one for movie.
I sold it because it’s having a limitation and hiccups. I could get many headsets for that Hololens price.

Well the only thing i can truly say on movie watching experience on a 200 - 210 fov is to check out reviews on Starbreezes StarVR which has 2x1440p (2xQHD) at 210 fov.

IMax Theaters have invested in StarVR; but unlike PiMax is only available to commercial purchase.

When i have more time will look into cinera but as one user mentioned an arm sounds like a bad idea which reminds me of Nintendo’s Virtualboy setup.

Yes, burden free arm is added burden, waste of money.
But, cinera is a good concept. Should have had built in head phones too.
I would buy the new version of Hololens when released.

Pimax will be good like Hololens, if all capabilities can be integrated and it’s already better than the viewing experience than Hololens.

Let me look into star vr too.

Magic leap is what another promising solution is.

Hi Heliosurge, thanks for your reply.

First of all, let me correct you - the StarVR headset is intended for an immersive VR experience for “companion pieces” to movies currently in theaters, not to watch the movies themselves.

“IMAX are expecting film-lovers to almost double what they’d pay for a movie to then step into a room next door to the main theatre once the credits start crawling up the cinema screen, strap on a StarVR headset and get involved in a short 360° presentation based in the same universe as the film they’ve just sat through”

(Source: The first 5K StarVR headsets are finally shipping…but IMAX have grabbed them all | PCGamesN)

Secondly, I realise that the ability to watch a movie will be possible on the PIMAX 8K and 8K X (I can already do this now on my Samsung VR headset), but my question to PIMAX is whether the image quality would be better on the PIMAX or the Cinera. The PIMAX has a greater overall resolution, but to watch a movie at the optimal 66 degrees would require you to use a fraction of the PIMAX headset’s overall screen area, and my current understanding is that the Cinera would deliver a sharper image quality in this screen area compared to the PIMAX (because it is optimised to use a greater proportion of its overall screen resolution, resulting in higher pixels per degree).

I would probably buy a PIMAX eventually, even if the cinema experience is better on the Cinera, as I will eventually want to enjoy more VR content, but for now my priority is personal cinema - if PIMAX can deliver the best current cinema experience (or equal to Cinera) AND do the VR as well, then I might as well buy one now.
