I must say I am pleasantly surprised by the update. At a tuesday even. I noticed there has been a mighty effort on Pimax and the Betatesters part. I am convinced that because of all your efforts there will be a great 8K delivered.

@deletedpimaxrep1 mentioned a new array of grafixcards around the corner, which of course is due in a few weeks: Watch Jensen Huang’s NVIDIA GeForce Keynote Live On August 20th | GeForce News | NVIDIA

At the gamescom, the new line of cards by NVidia is assumed to be shown: 11xx
And now the interesting part is: what kind of connections will those cards have. Is it the USB-C connector or not?
If so, well… you better build/design your rig asap before the 8K hits the market.

My main usage will be watching 3D movies, and also some Elite Dangeroous… my 980ti will be way good enough for that.

I have a 980 ti too, I will see the 8K in action first to take a look to a new GPU.

Or VR180 videos. Some are nice, just like being there.

Can I ask, do you need 2 base stations to set the 8K up in Steam?
If so, some of us are going to need a second BS having let the KS’s claim for single BS 360 tracking influence our order.

Just for information even for movie if you want to watch them with HVEC/H.265 encoding your 980ti can’t decode it but your CPU probably can. I personally like to let my video card do the work so it might be worth consideration for movie enthusiast. Also 4k HVEC movie can be quite hard on the CPU. I don’t know about the 3D movies since i never really liked them.

The 8K works with 1 base station (because Vive does that as well), and Pimax has already announced to improve the 1 base station experience. But the SteamVR Lighthouse problem (which is not related to Pimax 8K) probably needs to be fixed.

The problem only occurs on new PCs when you try to setup a HTC Vive (or any other headset) on a fresh PC install that never used the SteamVR Lighthouse tracking before. To make the initial room config, you need 2 base stations. If you dont, you wont get positional tracking. If you attach second base station that moment, and do the setup, then you can disconnect the second base station, and will never need the second base station again. So it will work with 1 only. (Apparently it saves some config files saying you have a 2 base station setup)

Hopefully there is some kind of workaround or tweak for this, and Im sure Pimax is working on this, as Valve/HTC has clearly not fixed this for 2 years.

Remember if you once have used 2 base stations on that PC before, going to 1 base station and switching to another headset will not be a problem and it will work fine with 1 base station from start.

Please fill me in, if anyone has found a work-around for this - or if this has been recently fixed maybe?

I’m happy (considering it’s seen as entry level) with the way I have DCS world, Lone Echo, and ED running on a 1070, and I’m a bit of a gfx snob.

Thanks for the reply. I was aware it will work with 1, after initial setup. Doesn’t help that it will work on 1 if I need 2 to get started in the first place. Pimax should have made this more clear. There will be many of us Rifters that need a 2nd BS to get at our Steam libraries up.

@deletedpimaxrep1 It might be a good idea to update the shipping survey ASAP as this could mean ordering more base stations.

I think this is an SteamVR issue ever since HTC Vive was released which most people are not aware of, because most people install their Vive with 2 base stations from start as both are always included. But there might be workarounds.

Can you recommend your favorite 180 clips?

real…virtual…p*rn
Just google

There are free samples. Paid is better. Top quality. Instant immersion lol

Know those, and they’re quite good. But would like to see some high quality content that is a little more cinematic. Sorry pr0n directors…

I’m quite worried that my 980Ti will NOT be good enough to run Elite Dangerous at reasonable quality settings. I’ve budgeted for an 1180Ti, but who knows when that will be released?

So at the time of the meetups is when we will get to tell Pimax if we want the 8k before software is ironed out or after. Thus no shipping until after the meet ups. Yet people still thinking some backers get them this month and everyone will have them by October.
As mentioned above the update is covered in smoke, at least as far as shipping goes. There’s no information to ascertain when shipping begins except that it won’t be until after the meet ups.
The information on where we’re up to with quality of the product is very good, way beyond what I have come to expect. Excellent update in this regard.

I bet you got safety measures so you dont get caught by your wife. lmao xddd

Hopeful thinking and believing is a bit different i don’t see where the ppl your referring to are.

For what i said do i think they might ship this month.
Answer yes

Do i think they will be received this month.
Answer Very unlikely

And from the road map of last post it would be closer to end November mid December for all backers unit production.(a big if all goes well) Yet i still want one for Christmas so best of luck to Pimax production going forward and all of backers getting unit soonish.

Honestly, I don’t mind waiting for the final version. I’m hoping they do a meetup near me so I can check out the m2 headset.
