When I originally backed Pimax, I owned a Vive. Dissatistied with it, I returned it and ordered the Pimax, expecting the original delivery date. Needless to say, that didn’t work out too well.
But okay, here we are a year later and I’m expecting the headset in another month or so. But- what do I use for controllers and base station? I checked the Vive site and wow is that ridiculously expensive. I don’t want to wait until Pimax gets their controllers and tracking stations up and running, who knows when that will be?
So, is there a more affordable solution? For example, the Oculus Rift controllers and tracking station are a fraction of the price of the Vive equivalent. Can I use them instead?
I found a complete VIVE setup with headset, controllers, light houses, link box, cables and power adapters for $199 shipped. They’re hard to find at that price but I had to search for a couple weeks. Ill be using the VIVE stuff if I can get it figured out. Heres link to my post on Vive controller set up guide.

Good luck. I couldn’t find one cheap. I had to buy individual used bases , controllers for a lot more than $199. Mean while I have Rift controllers / cameras I can’t give away…
I never minded paying for the nicer things I want, but I can’t help from feeling like I’m just wasting cash.
I think that 199$ is a very rare steal, but basically try to buy a whole vive package with no extras or…even better… a package with a broken vive.
Even that would be a steal for 199$ since the single parts are ridiculously expensive.
You can keep scanning ebay and craigslist for your area. I had bought from ebay a Vive with all cables , controllers and base stations and deluxe audio strap for 300 USD. If I get a Pimax later I could sell the Vive headset for 100 and the Audio strap for 75. Making the total purchase price for the stations and controllers only 125 USD. Keep scanning the deals are out there, ebay has A LOT of bid style auctions that extend beyond what you would spend retail, keep scanning on new auctions for buy it now deals. ALSO explain to the aucion holder once you pay that you DO NOT NEED the original box and they can pack it lighter if they wish. Ask them to refund the shipping difference if they would. I did this too and it saved me 25 on shipping.
I use google translation // I just noticed that with the design of knuckles ev3 one is obliged to have 2 LH so that the joystick is always captured, whereas with the knuckles pimax 1 only LH will be enough to always capture the joystick if you play against only 1 LH thanks to the fact that the sensor ring encircles the whole hand unlike the EV3 which has only the sensors in the back of the hand
I’ve been keeping an eye on ebay. It’s insane. People are selling used Vives for more than they cost new. And people are actually bidding on them! This is insane.
I don’t know, I may just sent Pimax the $300 for controllers and lighthouses, and just wait. Preferably after the shutdown is over…
Stupid question unrelated to anything else, but this forum is a tad hectic. How long are the cables that attach to the headset? I don’t need 10 m, but 5 m would likely be bare minimum I would need.
les razer hydra sont plein de beug , chez moi ça fonctionne pas , même avec les pilotes a jours !!! Si vous avez un tutoriel , je sera pas contre ce partage , car je ne vois pas pourquoi ils ne fonctionnent pas ! Merci.
