Add a young woman sitting on a guy’s lap on the rear row of seats making some questionable noises in the dark corner.
Is Pimax the only HMD without Proximity Sensors? It is isn’t it?
Even the GO , and the WMR headsets had it.
premium headset indeed.
To the OP.
Would you say that MRTV’s disappointing review is inaccurate? I still find it odd how much his opinion suddenly changed AFTER the non disclosure mess. Seemed like possible bias to me. I hope not as that would be a huge disservice to his viewers.
Actually my 8K X preview is a rather positive one. Probably you want to watch it again. It is just very objective, so things like distortions simply needed to be in it. So far it seems the impressions of people who received it pretty much exactly match my preview.
I think so but it really isn’t a big deal to me if they just do fake proximity data based on movement (gyro) instead and as I suggested a long time ago, they could then do a “proximity sensor always on” toggle in PiTool.
To be honest, I don’t remember much about his review (need to go back and read it again) but I think it was on a pre-production model so I’m not sure if our impressions are comparable to begin with.
Also, my goal here is sharing my own impressions, I don’t think there is value in comparing reviews. I’d rather spend my time answering questions about specific concerns/areas of focus.
EDIT: Is there a specific portion of his review you found disappointing?
What is your second favourite headset after the G2? Is it the 8KX?
Alright, I went through his review again and it was really funny to see this in his conclusion:
"That said, the 8K X will be a fantastic headset for all those VR enthusiasts that are simply looking for the VR headset that can offer the best picture quality on the market right now. "
Here is mine:
“I believe that the high resolution and fillrate of the panels combined with the wide FOV is the best visual experience you can get today in VR .”
I think his review is a fair assessment overall. The only thing I’d argue with is that the software got a lot more stable and performant since (Pitool 262 is a godsend).
Perhaps I’m mistakened? If so apologies to MRTV. I just remember a pretty big contrast between the initial impression, and the second impression after the ND was lifted… I should re-watch the video.
Well, maybe I read the wrong review - I tried to stay away from the drama of the NDA incident, so not sure what was when exactly.
Again, if you have a specific point you’d like my opinion on, I’d be happy to share it.
I threw on original Vive and I really couldn’t see myself.going back to smaller fov.
Although the Vive is still works fine after all this time👍
My 8k looses hands down against my OD+ for movies anyways. But I remember that the gyro solution was a pita because it used to shut down while watching movies, as you tend to keep your head steady and hardly move.
Probably should let Seb answer this himself but, I believe that, before they G2, he recommended the Valve Index.
Apologies accepted, watch the video again!
My second favorite headset after the G2 is definitely the Valve Index. After the Valve Index, it is the Pimax. Artisan!
Okay, well then that is concerning for the 8KX.
I really like the Artisan. If they gave it the DMAS and probably a tad more of resolution, sell it for a reasonable price…I think they would be up to something great.
