Any updates on the 12K

Hey @PimaxUSA @PimaxQuorra,
I thought after Ces alle our questions About the pimax 12k would be answered. So how long must the Pimaxians wait??? Tell us alle about the good and the bad news and why it takes so long? Then we will understand why it takes so long. I have the pimax 8kx for 4 years now. But the plastic case is getting some pressure cracks, just like the old pimax headsets. Also the fabric around the lenses getting loose. I always was and still am verry carefully with the pimax 8kx but it still happens. In the presentation of the pimax 12k more then 2 years ago you tell us we wil get full price deduction for the pimax 12k but after 4 years of use of the pimax 8kx or even more depends when the pimax 12k wil be released. You promised the Pimaxians that we will get full deduction of the price and you never told us about anny wear and tear after that many year’s so just keep your promise to us Pimaxians and we wil be staying at pimax Frontier or future headsets. Good luck to you alle for making the best headsets!!!

What made you think that?

Also, technically we are almost always both AFTER CES as well as BEFORE

Well Q3 of 2023 they should have done a roadshow with the pimax 12k and in the video of Sebastian from mrtv Nordic ceo of pimax told us good news was coming in q4 2023. And they promised that they show the pimax 12k at ces but we heard nothing. In the week of ces, pimax ask us on discord that all questions will be answered at ces. But we still heard noting.

This is from discord ces connect:
the messages are open now

:studio_microphone: Nordic Ren, CEO of Pimax will be answering your questions at CES 2024 event!

**Pimax is bringing to CES: **

  • Pimax Crystal - The Highest Clarity VR Headset in the World
  • Lighthouse Faceplate - Work with the base station and Sword Kit for precise tracking
  • 60G Airlink - Play PCVR games wirelessly

CEO Nordic Ren told us in a video the 12k would be at CES2024 but it wasn’t. Not even a 12k prototype was shown to the public. There was only a closed demo of something that was never explained properly.

If the 12k was due in 2024 we would have seen it at CES2024. I think Pimax will go through 2024 with the Crystal and then show the 12k at CES 2025.

Alright, so the announced Q3 23 12K roadshow didn’t happen, Nordic Ren announced ‘good news’ for Q4 23 and promised that the 12K would be shown at CES 24, which it wasn’t nor did any good news materialize.

So far so good, that’s a pretty classic Pimax communication strategy.

But where did it say that questions regarding the 12K would be answered after CES? I only see Pimax limiting the topic to Crystal products and wouldn’t expect them to answer anything regarding a product they haven’t yet been able to show the public, for whatever reason.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t hold your breath for a 2024 and maybe even 2025 release of the 12K and just be pleasantly surprised when and if it shows up on amazon

Pimax cancelled bionic lenses and focuses on pancake lenses…that’s why no 12k is being shown. Wait 4 more years lol.

I’ve never heard Pimax mention pancake lenses before.

Pimax should come clean on the 12k and the trade in programme. The liability of $800 per headset is huge especially if 10,000 crystals are traded in on the 12k that’s a whopping $8 million gone in lost profits.

What would Pimax do with 10,000 Crystals? Try to sell them off when so many other headsets have come to market like the VR-1?

I guess Pimax will do nothing in 2024 and just sell as many Crystals as they can.

Because he just made a little joke?

You’d think Pimax would do a follow up on what was in the CES tent. Maybe Pimax were desperate to show something new but something they had no plans on producing.

I guess Pimax are stuck between the people who don’t care about size and weight like simmers and then the wider market place that needs to be unlocked for future growth. How long can Pimax survive only producing for a niche market? How long before another new manufacturer drops a FOV bomb?

Honestly I think Pimax just never really thought about producing small headsets and pancake lenses for example. I think it was really BSB that opened people’s eyes and of course the fact that pancake lenses hit the scene only recently, which allow for much smaller and lighter headsets. Pimax missed out on that completely which kind of destroyed their Crystal which just arrived at the party a little too late. It now looks like an enormous brick that only maybe a few simmers are willing to put onto their heads.

So who knows what’s going on in their minds right now. I’ve said thousands time before that they should never even have created the Crystal and just should have focused on ultra wide FoV, that’s their speciality, that’s what they’re known for and that’s where they actually had some kind of advantage over the rest.

Really the best way would have been to create an improved 8kX. A headset with eyetracking, dynamic distortion correction (like apple did now, I said ages ago already that Pimax should work on that), 4k panels (or even 5k) but with much better fill factor, better colors. It would have sold really well, I’m sure.

Anyway now they only have the crystal in the market and competition is heating up. It’s not a good position to be in for sure.

Also something I’ve said a long time before is that I fear that Pimax won’t be able to keep up tech wise. I mean a few years ago creating a VR headset was just a matter of slamming some panels into a box with some lenses. Now look at all the tech that apple crammed into their headset. And without a doubt, things are even becoming more complex in the future. I honestly doubt Pimax will be able to keep up with that. It’s just really difficult for a small player like Pimax. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think the Pimax future looks very bright.

The improved 8kx is the pimax 12k but it is better to have normal fov but no pimax want 200 degree horizontal. And I think that that is not realistic, only if dfr works perfectly. Also the software is realy important. Pimax could learn from apple ui but pimax need to hire more people to develop it. The size of the headset is totally not important. If you are in vr it doesn’t matter How you look, but how it works. If the pimax 12k or pimax crystal or anny other cheaper variant in the pimax Frontier series and it works like the apple ui then pimax could sell even more headsets then Facebook. You know what the pimax crystal can do! that with the apple ui that’s a gamechancer! I want to ditch my TV and other screens and use the pimax 12k with apple ui but how long could we wait for that? Pimax has a chance to go main stream so I hope that pimax sees the future

Well Pimax can continue with huge headsets at their peril. Other manufacturers will produce smaller headsets with similar or bigger FoVs. BSB has a similar FOV at half the size. Hypervision have shown pancake lenses with 200FOV which means a small HMD. Let’s wait to see how big the XTAL4 is going to be.

Size is huge when you’re talking low age groups, AIO, sports games, fast FPS…

When you look at the Crystal internals it’s literally empty space at the sides so it big for bigs sake.

The only time I’d go back to a huge headset is if it was for 200FOV using glass lenses.

Yes I agree with the crystal it was better to have a smaller case. But the hardware is important. The smaller you go the les features the headset have.

Pimax baited people into buying the crystal with the dream of putting that money towards a 12k

With them it’s always a grift…hold onto those coupons as a life lesson.

I only guess, they need to make some significant amount of money with Crystal. If not, they may probably run out of money. It explains the aggressive, nearly desperate marketing towards us.
Unfortunately, I have just no need for a Crystal, even if it has so many benefits, compared with old 8KX but the FoV… FoV is main game changer. They would succeed with a 8KX+ Crystal Style, that I would buy. They miss to deliver 12K in time and no real offer. Apple will grab some potential buyers from them. Bad timing.

I’m really disappointed with MRTV. He interviewed Nordic before CES and was told the 12k woukd be there yet at CES Seb was not asking the questions holding Pimax to account. Where is the 12k we were promised? Now could this have anything to do with Sebs partnership with Pimax in his new business venture?

What’s the point of these interviews if they mean nothing?

And where is the Wifi6e for Crystal? How did they not have this working before it went on sale?

Relax. We complained when they did give us updates, which were proven wrong. Now they don‘t give any further updates anymore, and obviously the 12K is not ready for release. And as soon as they would state that it is going to become available soon, even less users would buy the Crystal.

I moved on from the 12K, not expecting it to appear in 2024, and who knows in which state it will be when it finally arrives and what the competition offers by that time.
But gladly I am not one of the poor buggers who actually bought Pimax products based on the trade in promise - for them it must stink big time as it may dawn on them that they may never see the day they can utilize this, or by the time they could, their device is already broken or the 12K is not competitive or missing several features.

A ton of features wasn‘t working when it went on sale, why single out this one?
