Yes, the default (of 20) can be changed at admin/site_settings/category/posting.
Some defaults of Discord are usually a good starting point for a new forum.
If people don’t just write “Agreed” or “this sucks” but take the time to elaborate a little (well, as long as the target of discontent is a “this” and not a “you”…), then it’s usually more interesting and helpful to read for others.
That said, if people write 2020202020202020202020 just to be able to send a response, it doesn’t help readability either though
