Of course it won’t be enough to make the 8k shine over 5kplus. That would’ve been wishful thinking. Not sure if it’s even possible at all.
Hopefully a growth in VR usage and these 2nd gen headsets give developers some reason to invest time in supporting tech such as Nvidia’s VR SLI (gpu per eye). Current support is pretty poor.
I’m going to be massively controversial (sorry) and say buy a used mining one with receipt and warranty left (loads around). These things are often bought new, put in rigs and UNDERVOLTED and run cool because they only want efficiency not every last drop of performance. A used gaming one will be in a hot stuffy case, overclocked and battered for hours on end by some gamer for hours on end. Don’t wish to hijack this thread with this huge controversy but just thought I’d add in my 2 pence.
WCCFTECH has a very in-depth review
I think 2080 Ti would be a great upgrade for my regular 1080 (no Ti)
Must have for the Pimax, but with money going to the FeelThree motion simulator chair very soon, I won’t afford the 2080 Ti until maybe next year…
Just ordered the MSI 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio.
Benchmark scores (previous poster linked):
Look at the specs for the Blue Room test:
“Massive 5K rendering resolution (5120 × 2880)” This should be comparable to what you’d render at for the 8K-X!!
And the 2080 Ti FE scored 99.98 FPS…
(made edits for clarity)
VR performance on these looks amazing, I’m definitely not cancelling my preorder for the 2080ti.
Looking at the games I play they are about +50-60% over my 1080ti, and that before we see what DLSS brings in.
Doesn’t Martin get his tomorrow?
This community is really in debt to his devotion and work ethic. I don’t envy the hours he has in front of him this week.
If I recall correctly the 2080Ti was delayed be a week. Obviously, the GPU reviewers had been sent units ahead of time and weren’t affected.
I read that the Founder Edition was delayed. Haven’t heard anything about partner cards. I think @SweViver ordered an MSI card. Crossing fingers for him.
And apparently preorders will still come out over the week between the 20th to the 27th for the 2080ti. It’s mainly for stores that are getting the delay.
Where are you getting this info from?
I’m not seeing much clear favourable info for 2080ti
@SweViver Please let us know when you get the 2080ti and if it makes games like DCS more playable!
for me 32 % over my 1080ti sounds good. Thats mean 20~25 fps more in my favourite simulators. Waiting for watercooling OC cards and jumping in.
I have the money in my pocket but it will be staying there.
This pure gouging by corporation with a monopoly and the gains simply aren’t worth the insane price tag.
And people thought the 1080Ti was insanely priced before this!
You used to be able to buy cutting edge PC build for the price of the 2080Ti not so long ago
The only way I will reconsider is if VR performance is massively improved.
Yeah, it’s crazy. But I don’t have time to wait for better and cheaper days (if they ever come). YOLO!
Hope it works great with the Pimax for you.
i wonder. a twitch streamer showed off pics of his boxed ti . https://twitter.com/itmeJP/status/1042049078069223425
