8KX vs 8K+ vs HP Reverb (Macro shots)

Would it be possible to include image of the 5K+ as well? I’m trying to figure out if going from my 5K+ to a 8K+ will be a big jump or not.

Cheers!

Good stuff. I think doing Rift S - Quest - 8KX would be a good idea. A lot of Quest-only users think the Quest is Godlike and graphics are good enough, but if you show off something like Apex Construct(or any other game to get the point across) Quest vs 8KX(with a “playable” resolution) it’ll have people thinking differently. I say do both Rift S at native res and Quest because Quest people will be using Link soon at that Rift S resolution.

Hey Martin, would you mind doing a shot of one of my 360 degree battlefront photos on the X? ; )

If you can afford it, the clear winner would be the 8KX, which should also have the longest useful life (before it becomes obsolete).

Unfortunately, the Pimax headsets seem to have trouble with AMD GPUs. @Heliosurge, you seem to know a lot about the Pimax / AMD GPU situation. What do you recommend?

Thanks a lot @Sweviver !!!

Hi Derelict,

We’ve had stability issues with the 5700xt but AMD has been working hard to update it though and over the last few months have improved reliability considerably. Some customers have reported recently that they cannot get their 5k+ and a 5700xt to connect at all. In the benchmarks below it performs in VR like a Nvidia 2060 Super so if you were to get it operating it could potentially be ok in less demanding games.

The above benchmarks are done on an Oculus CV-1 with 1080x1200 per eye. A Pimax 5k+, 8k, XR and 8K+ your base resolution is 2560x1440 per eye. So the FPS without tweaking will usually be considerably lower than the values shown in the test.

For now the 5700 wouldn’t be recommended. Hopefully we can optimize further and change that.

The detail on the X is just insane compared to every other headset.

Yes it is. I try not to be materialistic, but I sure do want an 8KX.

Nice pictures! Would it be possible to have pictures of the 8kx Vs 8kx upscaled and 90 Hz?

The X, I believe, can not do 90Hz at native resolution. So I guess not possible.:level_slider::point_up_2::wink:

But maybe I’m misinterpreting you request?

While there may be a limitation in the headset itself, my understanding is that 2x 4K at 90Hz isn’t possible due to limitations of the current DisplayPort standard. That is, there is no way to even send all that info over a single cable.

With time, that will certainly become possible, either through compression, better cables, or a fiber optic link. That means we will have to wait for new video cards and an 8KX+ headset for native res at 90Hz.

Let’s wish for them to make it possible

Awesome! Thank you :pray:t3: very much and have a pleasant flight!

I thought the 8kx could do native 8k at 75hz, perhaps 80hz and 90hz upscaled. I might be wrong though. If upscaled 90hz 8kx is the same as 8k+ I will buy 8k+ as gpu performance is slow.

If You enable the upscaler on the 8KX it should look more or less the same as on the 8K+ as the panels are the same, unless the upscaler on the 8KX is a lot better than that of the 8K+.

@SweViver/@PimaxUSA: Not sure if You’ve already answered this, but when using the upscaler on the X is it equal to the + in terms of picture quality?

Good question and wasn’t the 8k-X native mode at 90hz a possibility with DSC compression?
That might, you know, be a decisive factor to some potential customer.

I think it may be so new to them they may not know the answers!

I’m quite sure some Pimax tech stated that 8k-X at native res might be possible 90hz. edit. since the panels are capable, it’s a matter of bandwidth.

This?

Pretty sure it’s Robin Weng (founder of Pimax) who’s behind that account.
