8KX connection problem?

Yes. I finally built it… parts list here

Case is a bit THICC so I had to get creative. :sunglasses:

Just in time for MSFS2020. I hear that game doesn’t mess around when it comes to cpu.

That’s a beast of a computer. Expensive also.

Yeah believe it or not I wasn’t planning on upgrading this year, but when I saw that ryzen available i couldn’t resist. (I am now poor)

Its so much faster than my aging 4790 from 2014.

I don’t think i will need to do this again for another 6 years. I feel a little future proof.

Strangely enough its 3x less expensive than the PreBuilt PC’s like the one mRTV got from (i think it was CyberPower) and its more powerful.

for what he paid i could have thrown a 3090 in there.

i realize this seems too good to be true, but i am as happy as can possibly be with this program and havent gotten the TINIEST unwanted update or the slightest unwanted change to my system WHATSOEVER in over a year  simple as could possibly be, and effective as could possibly be. turn it off whenever you want, update, then turn back on. that easy. me personally, i NEVER plan to update unless absolutely necessary.

ooh I need this… The only way to use Tridef is on a older build of win 10 (1809) and the only reason I haven’t set up my dual boot yet is because I had no way of keeping it from being updated.

Thanks!

why is it that you can only use tridef on older windows btw? and what do you plan to use it for? i have it too, but have never used it…i also have vorpx but havent had time to try it :frowning: i spend so much time troubleshooting pimax issues i dont have much time to actually USE it anymore lol

Tridef was software similar to 3dVision which made games 3d. But they bankrupt a few years ago and took their software with them.

At some point windows updates broke it. last known working windows version AFAIK is 1809.

I plan on using it to play games in 3d on my VR headset. Its not exactly like vorpx because Vorpx actually tries to inject VR as well (head tracking)

Before VR, I used to game in 3D exclusively, but I stopped since getting VR. But recently I’ve re-awoken to stereo3d in VR because its actually viable now with the resolution of headsets like 8kX/Quest 2/G2) and having gone back and experienced games like Sonic Boom in 3D I am eager to play a lot more of my pancake library in 3d.

Of course Vorpx can do all of this but it doesn’t support all games so between Tridef, Helix Vision and Vorpx I would have all of my bases covered.

i LOVE flat games in SBS 3D!! been replaying zelda games (skyward sword at the moment on dolphin in 4k)
Ive been using RESHADE to render the games in SBS 3d, then using virtual desktop in HSBS mode to blend the image into a 3d image, its AWESOME!

yeah thats what you need to do with tridef.

You know what else i tried that worked? Citra the 3ds emulator.

It emulates the native SBS so I put it in full screen and used vorpx desktop mode and switched to SBS and it worked.

If you are wondering why I didn’t use VD. I find that for some 2D games VD is just slow. The game will play full speed on the desktop but in the HMD it will be 1 fps

Vorpx can handle it. For example NFS Heat is a slide show in VD. but on Vorpx Desktop mode its 60fps

Try Donkey Kong, it’s like the game was designed on purpose for 3d even though its not. Mario Galaxy is amazing too.

Hi

At least for fixing Windows to 1809, you don’t need any special tool. Since I’ve got my problems, I found that you can configure Windows Update in the Group Policy to stick to whatever Windows version you want. As soon as set, Windows Update even doesn’t install any major improvement updates for the current version, as well, just security updates for Defender or small specific app-related updates.

Configure Windows Update for Business via Group Policy (Windows 10) - Windows Deployment | Microsoft Docs

I want to stay on a specific version

If you need a device to stay on a version beyond the point when deferrals on the next version would elapse or if you need to skip a version (for example, update fall release to fall release) use the Select the target Feature Update version setting instead of using the Specify when Preview Builds and Feature Updates are received setting for feature update deferrals. When you use this policy, specify the version that you want your device(s) to use. If you don’t update this before the device reaches end of service, the device will automatically be updated once it is 60 days past end of service for its edition.

When you set the target version policy, if you specify a feature update version that is older than your current version or set a value that isn’t valid, the device will not receive any feature updates until the policy is updated. When you specify target version policy, feature update deferrals will not be in effect.

=> At least, you can maintain that old version until its end of service.
Unfortunately, I don’t know whether 1809 already had EoS.

=> 1. So create a 1809-installation with the Media Creation Tool.
2. Do the major security, service and bug-fix updates for 1809.
3. Turn-off auto upgrade in the Local Group Policy as described above.

@Tridef-3D:
I have it, too, but only rarely use it since I’ve got the 5K+/8K-X and vorpX.

Main issue I have with almost any game turned into VR with vorpX, is, that the image’s depth doesn’t really fit completely - everything looks a bit as if it was too close. Even buildings, towers or towns at the horizon look as if it was not dozens of kilometers or more, but much much closer. That’s a bit weird, think, I have to play around with the 3D-depth setting.
When trying / playing with Tridef on my monitor, depth is okay.
So I think, games really have to be designed for VR, too, in order to look right.
Nevertheless, I am thankful that there is that possibility for VR with vorpX.

Any further recommendation is appreciated

interesting, I figured the group policy was only temporary.

Try setting the Pimax to small FOV, and follow the instructions on adding Pimax specific custom desktop resolutions.

Games with Direct FOV Mode should look as good as real VR games, with others YMMV.

Truth is for Vorpx it’s just easier to use my Quest 2

Edit: If you really want to see what Direct VR mode can do. Beardo just posted an excellent video. @elin77

wait a minute. Why use reshade to split it. Dolphin supports real Stereo Geometry Mode for much better effect.

Hi @drowhunter,

I just did the test with my 1,5 month old, clean Windows 10 64bit 20H2 installation, and TriDef - generally - works!!

Just follow this guide here:
https://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=164910#p164910

Generally works, means in my case exactly:

  • Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen is old enough to work “generic” with TriDef 7.4. Unfortunately, there is no DDDA-specific profile, so I’ll have to have a look around on the internet in order to find one, hopefully.
  • The Elder Scrolls Online doesn’t work: Either it does not launch at all (short loading, then closing as if never started), or it launches, TriDef Ignition too, I get the first ingame screen where TriDef shows up its version information in the lower left corner - and then, ESO crashes to desktop with an ESO-internal error message. In this case, I think ESO just got major engine changes in the recent years since TriDef closed, so TriDef hasn’t any updates for the original profile any more. Here, too, I hope the community at mtbs3d could have a solution.
  • Last but not least, besides the games itself, I saw my CPU getting quit hot while having been in DDDA for that 5 test minutes: 62-69°, 65-67 in average!! - whereas the 5600X normally tends not to get hotter than 50-55° with single peaks up to 59/62° perhaps - under 8K-X-VR! - in normal "2D-"flat gaming even less. So I am not sure whether I really like to stick with TriDef, even if it generally seems to work… Of course, it isn’t optimized for all the latest CPU and GPU generations in the recent years.

Try setting the Pimax to small FOV, and follow the instructions on adding Pimax specific custom desktop resolutions.

Well, Pimax specific custom resolutions are already set from the beginning.
But I fear, I won’t be able to be satisfied with a small FOV in VR any more  In that case, it certainly would be better to get a specific TriDef profile to work with it - FOV on my 47"-TV isn’t much smaller, and image quality, textures, details and FPS are better. If there wouldn’t be the 5600X getting hotter there than in any other situation so far…

tldr; :
As far as I am able to determine, TriDef is working again with latest Windows 20H2, at least. Remains the problem from where getting optimized profiles
