8K X Occasionally Blacks out for a few seconds (Potentially Solved, EMI Ground Loop/ Interference likely the cause)

This does mean i had to kill my linux hypervisor and move it to this tho…
Say hello

to my “new” DB server, and file scanning server.

Your testing that youve done above is to find the cause of the blackouts?

Hi Guys! I have some more news
It’s been almost 2 weeks with the beta firmware they gave me in May (which was the first fw to allow 90hz to work with the newer nvidia drivers).
I had some flashes happen at 90hz, but not as many as the fw from June…
I switched to 75hz - and not 1 issue for 2 weeks - no flashes, no lines, no blackouts - perfect so far

Now, they gave me some new beta fw to try
1 is called “fdca_normal”
1 is called “fdca_laptop_exclude”

I tried the “normal” fw first - 75hz at the pimax logo looked fine, switched to 90hz, and immediately it started flashing every second just like the flashing i’ve seen before also. Something just a split second flash, sometimes i see a split second black/white lines screen, etc

Then i tried the “fdca_laptop_exclude” fw and on the pimax logo - 75 and 90hz - so far no flashing. I’ll be testing this firmware at 90hz to see if the flashing or blackouts continue

I think we’re getting closer to the issue being 90hz is unstable with nvidia gpu’s…

Unfortunately i had 1 flash at 90hz on the “laptop_exclude” fw as well - trying 75hz

It seems more and more to be an issue with 90hz to me.

EDIT: and of course i tested 75hz just now, and no issues.
Seems almost certainly 90hz and the bandwith of DP 1.4…

Mike, I’ve done the same, switched to 75Hz for the past 2 weeks with absolutely no issues on latest firmware. This is the only solution that works so far.

At least this fairly conclusively proves that the firmware is at fault. I hope Pimax come up with a fix soon.

Ye it certainly seems like a firmware issue at 90hz for sure. They havent been able to get it stable.

I had few black screens a month ago, then more… and now it’s basically only black… I tried many firmware from the support today but it doesn’t seem to solve the problem.
IMO they should temporally forget about releasing anything related to 90hz, and just solve the problems…

I just tried the 8KX for the first time yesterday, as I received my (finally) 3080 Ti.
Worked fine, no blackouts.

Today I flashed to the 298 beta fw, which set it to native, 90hz.
It gives blackouts very frequently. Like once every 1-2 minutes.

I’ll try 75hz now and see if it continues.

Yup - please let us know. So far 75hz for me started to work flawlessly - 3 weeks straight.

How about at 75hz native?

Yeah, 90hz in Pimax Experience gave blackouts constantly.

75hz native seems to work fine. Haven’t tested any games yet on the 8kx.
However, now the vive wands are stuttering in their “rendering” - tracking seems fine. It looks like the wands are in quantum superpositions.

I had the same experience recently. 1 beta fw gave me blackout flashes every second, another one worked but had 1 flash in about 45 minutes. So they’re all basically unstable, just some are better than others.

but the betas are only released to find the problems xD

I thought they were released to fix problems!

I’m on beta and 271 and I have zero issue at 90hz with Unreal. At first had some sporadic blue flashes , like lightnings, but fingers crossed it’s all good now. 9700@5ghz 3090FE.

Well the m298 beta was Apr release. With the 298 limited releases since then are Alphas.

Yes they have been releasing alpha/beta firmwares to those having problems, to see if it helps find/fix their issues - although any of the changes lately seem to have been hit or miss (mostly a miss though) - as the flashing/blackouts are still there for most of us - im just thankful i can use the headset at 75hz without an issue for so long now.

Indeed as the Apr 298 public Beta didn’t work well for most save Amd users.

Most recent internals are 2 files, one for laptop and one for desktop rigs. This is the set that looks like it will quickly make it to open beta.

Theyre both no good - i tried the one called “normal” and 90hz was flashing every second

The one called “laptop_exclude” blacked out once

I mentioned it above and i sent Doman a video of how bad the flashing was on the “normal” one.
