Good news and Bad news fellas
Today i had about 4 flashes. I decided to go back to the last beta firmware they gave me from May which works with the latest drivers at 90hz - but even with the new cable, emi filter, ferrites, etc - flashes still happening.
This time the flash was a little different
It’s a split second blackout flash, but first the screen brightens up, then i see these black/white lines from left to right (as ive been seeing), and then the screen comes back - the screen getting brighter when it flashes like that is new to me.
They requested that I go down to 60 or 75hz and test with the new optical cable as they believe the issue is with 90hz (as i once suspected it may have to do with 90hz still being unstable - although ive had blackouts with 75hz before as well)…
The good news is their engineer today finally reproduced the flash themselves on an Nvidia 3090 gpu. They’re working on trying to narrow down the root cause.
I was thinking of downgrading the firmware to the version before 90Hz was made available but I can’t find the dfu file for this, any idea where we can get this file from?
I’d rather be able to run at 75Hz with no blinking than my current state of affairs where I cross my fingers and hope it will be ok.
Dave if/when you downgrade to one of the older firmwares, let me know how it works for you. If it works its obvious the 90hz mode firmwares are the issue at that point. But it would take at least 2-3 weeks of solid testing to be sure.
Who here is using something OTHER THAN A 3090 GPU? Pimax is thinking it’s linked to 3090’s but id like to show them that we’ve had people have issues with 1080Ti, 2080ti, and 3080’s also
Thank you for responding. They’re trying to narrow down the reason for the flashes or blackouts and thought it was just 3090’s… So I’m trying to show them others with 1080,2080,3080/3090’s all had the issues also.
8kx 9900k @5Ghz, 3900FE, 32GB RAM tuned for Assetto Corsa Competizione (1800h) plus all other simracing: iRacing, PC2, Raceroom, Assetto Corsa, rF2, AMS2 . Win10 last update, Nvidia compatible driver for 90Hz.
Since the firmware update at 90Hz AND PiTool 271 had plenty of black outs, randomly at first, continuously in the last few days.
Also, either on PEv86 or SteamVR via PiTool getting temporary blackouts when switching into other applications within Windows desktop, which wasn’t the case before 90Hz firmware update.
Doesn’t matter if game is running windowed mode or full screen.
@PimaxQuorra available to commit for beta test of new firmware/software.
Edited since I started to have black outs with 270 as well (3 in 8 minutes).
Edit 2: 75Hz on 271 works fine, therefore I can confirm it’s not an EMF issue, rather coding related to 90Hz implementation.
Yes MANY Blackouts during gameplay, at least 2-3 blackouts every 4 hour play session. I made several posts and opened a support ticket as well, they wanted a video of the blackouts but they were so random it wasn’t feasible to try and capture it on video. I just got done playing Derail Valley for about 2.5 hrs and not a single blackout today either.
Alright… I been experimenting my D* off.
Heres what i found.
First: I just killed as much frequency changes as I could in bios.
and set my GPU to run at boost all the time.
minimizing noise.
I just set a full 4.7G overclock across all cores.
Killed hyperthreading because that sh* bad for thick gaming bandwidth.
I put the computer in a cleaner strip. (with noise filter)
This has done the trick.
beyond that…
1.) the Fiber cables dont always secure perfect
This might be nuanced wear by us active users.
However I solved this by using zipties and rubber bands to make anti-tension anchors on the port.
2.) Something about the [refresh rate] and [motion smoothing]
basically: “always max refresh” and always “No smoothing”
3.) Heres a BIG ONE…
DPC Latency.
… I wont explain this one.
High DPC = Bad Tracking
(and LOW RES)
Low latency yourself by setting max clock all the time, Parking will still save power if you really care.
Killing SMP will get you bigger clocks, and memory speed.
Of course this is what i did.
I dont expect you to take my work for it.
But heres my knowledge.
