People also don’t realize the 8K will get better. Rendering all those pixels at high frame rate is a very tall order. Over time the rendering will get easier, if they Implement some interesting optimizations it might not even take that long.
But yes, compared to the 4K, and all current headsets on the market, pimax has made something special.
LOL! you show how difficult it’s to make a representative poll
so if I follow you :
Will you keep your original choice the 8K? Yes
I’m an 8K backer and I would like an upgrade solution to the 8Kx. Yes
I’m an 8K backer but I don’t know yet. Yes
That was all true, but after @SweViver’s recent video of the 5K+ and 8K pixel matrix, I’m changing my decision and now plan to get a 5K+.
I had a preference for the 5k+ but the after last video of sweviver my choice is confirmed. I don’t like the pixel structure of the 8k. The lack of clarity is a deal breaker for immersion in my book so I will have to accept more FOV. Taking in account the review by Oscar I don’t want any more distortion the 5k+ seems a safer choice.
Possible, maybe, might, we are still speaking of another development cycle with the same small cie that has a great deal on is plate . Has an investor we should know when and how to take out our profit.
In my opinion pimax must « simply » seek and wait for another 4K LCD with a higher PPI and pixel structure more compatible with the rendering pipeline and the upscaler. In doing so they will have 2 products which can distingate themselves from each other and justify a price difference.
And it does work just maybe not as good as expected. If you look at none of the other HiFoV headsets have gone past 5k; in fact StarVR decreased resolution.
The 8k-X is limited as it’s requirements are astronomical in comparison. Now with Analogix new bridge chips with built in scaler set to release in 2019 maybe not as high specs needed.
The simple truth the Pimax team did a really nice gesture releasing the 5k+. With the reg 5k the choice might not have been as hard for folks to choose.
It’s a gamble to stick with the 8k as the 4k improved visual quality over time. But the 4k has a horizontal zigzag pattern while the 8k seems to be diagonal. Changing a variety if things in the rendering pricess might improved things considerably but the reverse is also potentially true.
Now that the subpixel pattern is known, it seems clear to me that the 8K X will not provide a picture that is substantially better than that of the 8K.
The 5K has 25601440 = 3.68 million pixel which turn into 11.1 million subpixel because each pixel has 3 subpixel. The 8K (X) panels have 38402160 = 8.3 million pixel which turn into 12.4 million subpixel because each pixel only has 1.5 subpixel on the average. So only 12.5% more subpixel.
The 5K+ is not a “free” upgrade for 5K backers. It is what those people backed for. Two 5K displays with 3 subpixel per pixel.
The 8K users backed for 125% more pixel than what the 5K users backed for. Now they get +12.5% more pixel. Same is true for 8K X users.
So the 8K X is not the solution, better panels with proper 3 subpixel per pixel are the solution.
Firstly yes it is an upgrade they used more expensive panels. Second the 8kx hasn’t even begun development yet so changing panels, especially after all the backlash, wouldn’t be out of the question.
That is ridiculous logic. Your profit or loss is based on what YOU invested. If you put in $500 and get $1,200 you are +$700 plain and simple. In fact it would rate as one of the greatest 1yr investments, ever. Average stock market return is 7.6% annually - this is 240%. Like buying a stock a $10/share and selling it at $24 after 1 year.
I think the best way to proceed would be to merge the 8K and the 8KX into an 8K+ with true RGB 4K panels. Backers could either decide to go for the 5K+ now or wait probably 6-9 months to get the 8K+. However, that would only work if the can manage to get their hands on 4K displays of similar size like their current ones. I’m not sure if the 4K panels of the Pimax 4K are small enough and if they have 3 subpixel per pixel.
if you wait to long pre order sell on prices will drop and you will be competing with pimax consumer price !! i would get rid now as the gettings rids good ,and just think nothing more to complain about ,its a win win
