This is personal choice ofcourse. The colors on the 8k are very bad compared to OLED. Watching the Blu deep sea experience was an eye opener as to what a person has to give in color reproduction. You can argue that OLED has unrealistic colors, but 90% will choose it in VR as it simply provides a more desired image color rendition
sorry just my bad english i guess
was meant to say you are right, the pixel pattern seems not to bother people much
also the multi million pixel count is debatable, as the input for both is just 1440p and there is still no âofficialâ consent about the number of sub pixels in the 8k panels (if its not a rgb panel then comparing it to a rgb panel of the 5k+ is not the right thing to do when it comes to the number of pixels as not every pixel contains rgb information)
i guess we will have to wait for that until some one at least removes the lenses and makes a good sharp macro shot of the 8k panel
Yes agree if you come from oled 8k is less also, but i mentioned 8k is in between the 5k+ and oled, itâs was better with colors and contrast i noticed than the 5k+, that was the only thing i said
The problems is that if you can not create proper blacks, you will never create desirable balanced image (acceptable, yes). LCDâs simply cant compared on color vibrancy and blacks of OLEDs. Now, many people simply want no SDE, therefore the 5k+ and 8k is the one to choose. But arguing that the those can match OLED colors is a losing argument.
ah oke thanks for clarifying, yes itâs a technical debate, indeed the input signal is the same and the 5k+ would have more subpixels, but after the upscaling the panels give a more refined experience for me on the 8k. In the end i go with my own perception.
I agree, but I can also see it as an acceptable compromise, even Valve has stated that LCDs in VR headsets is a good way to cut down costs, the LCDâs in the pimax now can be a lot better than they currently are.
Im optimistic for the new tech of displays. especially high refresh rate ones.
Me too.
The thing is, OLED is a fairly new technology and none of the currently available panels have full RGB per pixel, nor do they have the pixel density available in an LCD panel. LCD technology has been around longer, so itâs had time to mature. It hasnât reached its peak yet either: Quantum dot technology will help the colors and eventually, reach the black levels of OLED (once self-illuminating pixels are perfected).
Currently, all VR headsets have issues with their displays. The technology will continue to improve, so we have much to look forward to.
5KBE is pentile type OLED, which means right off the bat it is quite a bit worse than the 5K+ that uses RGB stripe.
Pentile is a fake resolution plague.
Display technology was stagnant from the 90âs to the late 2000âs, the tech is moving fast, but they are sort of playing catch up
Certainly not having full red and blue pixels doesnât help mitigate pixel spacing (black grid) However, it provides a more soothing image, as long you are not anal about screendoor.
Yes, it is all for the clicks! Thanks for clicking!
Well ive decided im gonna cancel my order an get a 5k + standard version instead, that SDE on the OLED version is too much for me, it would drive me mad.
I gotta admit when I saw your âfirstâ impression of the 5K+BE oled in Vegas I was ready to get the wheels in motion on obtaining the BE, you seemed so stunned when you first put it on! I thought man they really improved it.
Now I like your reviews but you know just like everyone else we have to get more review rather than just one.
Then I remembered Space Pirate Trainer looked awesome with the OG Vive minus the big FOV!
So after your next review with more time with the BE and with more games I soon hit the brakes.
I bet it looks awesome compared to the 8K and 5K+ with the OLED eye candy.
There are pictures from âskaiâ from a pentile with anti glare screen protector:
https://community.openmr.ai/t/anti-sde-for-pimax-5k-be/10466/26
My wish:
Better photos. Exact the same area, text in different sizes, lines etcâŚ
A test image. With, and without filter.
And side by side, and here embedded.
For now, I have made a comparing gif from skaiâs pentile pictures:
Original, two layers (anti glare screen protector) and 4 layers.
Is there an owner of Odyssey +, he could possibly open it and take photo with and without filters :-).
If the filter can be removed reversibly.
Or is it glued on like 3D TV (polfilter)âŚ
Perhaps, a Anti-SDE-Filter is THE solution, a compromise for undecided backer/user.
And on this pictures, this is only a âmisusedâ screen protector.
A special âAnti-SDE-Materialâ should be better.
The 5K+ is a final decision.
You can not increase the contrast, the black level.
Only make darker (brightness control).
But we have the possibility to add a filter to the 5K BE OLED.
If necessary also DIY.
Is it possible to open the Pimax 5K BE? So that you get to the surface of the displays.
Pimax should answer that.
Pimax should offer a anti-SDE filter.
That can be optional.
P.S.:
The native resolution of 5K+ and 5K BE is exact the same.
Right?
Is text in the 5K BE as easy to read as in the 5K +?
I hear that a lot. I donât get it. the colors are not washed out and not poor in any way.
thoemse is right - at least in simracing, the lcd pimax has the best colors, lets say most realistic colors of all my headsets. maybe its just me but I truly see it that way.
If you only use monochrome green screen as in the beginning of PCs in your VR world it will be on same levels.
No, due to the higher SDE, smallish text would be much harder to read on the 5K BE, due to the PenTile OLED layout.
The BE OLED ver is about vive level.
5k+ / 8k are both pretty much where SDE is no longer an issue for those people who it bothers, 8k is a softer image the 5k+ is sharper but slightly more of a grid is visible. i wouldnt call it SDE tho.
this really is all about personal preference. All are good for each persons use case + preference.
