Hi, i have orderd a pimax 5k plus and im looking into buying controllers and lighthouses in the meantime, pimax stuff is to far away and i dont want htc controllers, “old htc vive vet” i know valve index controllers work, and i want to buy them but will the index lighthouses work with pimax 5k plus ?
Yes. They’re SteamVR 2.0 lighthouses like the ones Pimax will ship are too. Only difference should be the housing (I guess).
The old v1 basestations (bundled with OG Vive) will work with v1 and v2 sensors (ie controllers, headsets, trackers, etc).
The new v2 basestations (bundled with Vive Pro/Pimax/Index)
- Will work with v2 sensors (headset and controllers for Pimax/Index/etc)
- Will NOT work with v1 sensors (OG Vive headset/controllers and older trackers/peripherals)
the old base station (1.0) and controllers work remarkably well and are cheap, why looking for something else ?
Well for the controllers i dont really like the wand from htc they worked ofc, i like how the index controllers are designed, looks easyer to aim down a sniperrifle sight / playing bow games, with the htc i sometimes hit the headset och when im playing shooters, some sniper rifels makes me put the controller so close the headset that it touches.
And for basestations, my old htc vive tracking was amazing, but at a play area of 3x3 meters was the max i could get away with, if i went higher i started to get more tracing issues like floating hands when holding still, so the 2.0 that can do 10x10 meters will be great = hopfully more stable tracking at bigger spaces.
And secoundly here in sweden its not that cheap or easy, i been looking and its really hard to find preused controllers and defently the base stations, ppl are only selling complete sets and they go for 350-400 euros used! crasy.
The controllers i found, ppl wanted 100 euro for a used controller, so that is if i can find another one 200 euros plus shipping and HOPE that they are not broken, or i buy the index controllers for 299 euros
So its more realistic and future proof to buy new 2.0 stations and the controllers
