Will Pimax 8K work without Basestations?

The 4K works fine with Steam VR and piplay software. For seated games like Skyrim, Elite, Pcars etc. This is without any base-stations. @deletedpimaxrep1 can we have some official confirmation that the 8K will also work like this please?

Hi. Add @deletedpimaxrep1 to your post

Its a good question as most of us will be stuck without base stations for months

In addition, is is possible to disable the headset gyro when people do want to use the basestations instead?

I asked this question before and was told about it’s built in gyro’s. I just wonder how good those gyro’s will work, I mean they can t work that great because otherwise Sony, Oculus and HTC would have used them instead.

However when I joined the kickstarter, I had hopes of some better VR games at this point but there is nothing that interests me so far. All I use VR for these days is VorpX for mainstream games like GTA 5 or AC: Origins. At least with the 8k they shouldn’t be so blurry.

I think the problem with gyro’s will always be drift. There’s no ‘baseline’, no reference point, other than the stored values, where with basestations there’s always the distance to each basestation as reference

Can buy HTC Vive lighthouses

I beleive all 3 use them but use positional systems to track positional data & correct gyro.

Ifixit teardown in psvr

Rift & Vive info slso has gyros

But thats not the question  he wants to know about the gyro tracking

Yes, it will work without base-stations, but you will be limited to 3 axes of rotation, like the Pimax 4K. No, unfortunately, I could not find an official source for that info.

If the internal gyro’s are anything like the Samsung Galaxy ones I think that should be sufficient to tide us over until we get the base stations delivered.

Although I have never used a base station based positioning system yet, I have used the Gear VR extensively and the internal tracking on that is more than adequate for seated experiences. We may just have to limit what we use the Pimax 8k for untill the base station arrival.
Im just going to be ecstatic to have the headset! Cant believe it may only be a couple month away

Having used the 4K which has no base-stations at all with games which use a controller, I can confirm that the head turning tracking is suffice. Obviously it’s not perfect but works well in context of seated experiences especially. I think those of us waiting for the Pimax base-stations could opt to spend around £119 for a single vive base-station to get basic tracking if this is crucial to your expectations.

I have tested Vive,Rift,Go, and simple Fiit for iPhone quite extensively and personaly have to say that Rift may be best bang for the buck in all terms except seriously minor differences in tracking and expandability. But who wants to expand v1 tech anyways? …Me…unfortunaly
Despite the flaws I went for vive honestly only because I cannot bear the thought of not kinda fully using the 8k when it arrives and wait for the stations/controller till whenever.
Yes it‘s nice that we‘ll be able to use the 8k standalone somehow but…come on.
I just hope that I‘ll get rid of the vive without too much loss when all parts will be delivered. Other than that the Rift would have sweetend my time much more, the difference in overall optics especially sweetspot is huge.

Can we get confirmation on this, as I am thinking on getting just the headset to see what the pictures like, without the base stations, then later using base stations, apprently the Vive Pro needs at least 1 base station or it wont display a picture, if the 8K at least works with no base stations, drifting issues aside, it would be a really good test to see just the display then decide later for base stations controlllers etc.

8k has bern tested without base station I beleive. @Cdaked

The 4k works without base stations (has none) & 8k can use other tracking options so can start without base stations.

My understanding is that it will work, but you will only have 3 axis of rotation (no positional support). That means flying and racing games are supported, but not games which require body movement.

that’s good, they should mention that to help sales as people will just want to view the screen and then buy the tracking materials later.
