Will a GTX 1080ti be able to run the Pimax8KX?

Hi,

Pimax says the minimum required GPU for the Pimax 8KX is either a RTX 2060 or a RTX 2080.
The GTX 1080ti has similar performance as the RTX 2080. (non ti)

Will a GTX 1080ti run the Pimax 8KX headset?

Thank you!

Sweviver did mention a few times the performance is comparible to the current 8k and 8k+ because you don’t have to use the extra supersampling

No, you will need at least 2 x 4080 Ti Super /S

My understanding, why they specify RTX series as a minimal spec. is that some advanced features, e.g. FFR will possibly never work on Pascal (GTX series) and Pimax wants to avoid any dispute with the customers.

I believe however there is a large user base having GTX 1080Ti (I am a part of ), which would not upgrade to RTX as of now, and there is technically no reason, why GTX 1080Ti should not be powerful enough to drive the headset (apart from the aforementioned features).

Hi,
Hopefully some brave soul ( maybe @SweViver ?) will try the Pimax 8KX with a GTX 1080ti and report back.

Again, it depends on the game you play and the fps versus supersampling quality you want to achieve.

Hi,

I use my Pimax 5k+ with X-Plane 11 and Condor 2 (Gliding simulator).

It will, with upscaler on in the “worse” case…and if my fellows VR enthousiasts allow me, I will reply in french.

Hi, @Ludiks

Thank you for your reply. Although I live in France, my French is only very basic(still learning), so I had to get the google translator to help me.

I don’t use supersampling much because XP11 is too demanding, although my 5k+ copes surprisigly well will XP11. Condor 2 is very easy on the fps and therefore no issue at all.

My bad, with the FR tag I thought you were french ^^

So if your 5k+ run xp11 good, the 8K+ or X upscaled will run it in a similar way.
But it you upgrade your gpu later you will be able to unleash the kraken ^^

Hi again,

Thanks for your input!

Will be interesting to see what actual 8KX users will have to say.

I believe @PimaxUSA have said they have some test machines with 1070s.

Depends on the app, for example Iracing will run on 8kx with constant 90 fps and no reprojection, while some other titles might only give you around 30-40 fps, which could be not enough even with reprojection in a 75hz mod (depends on sensibility)

Same, 1080 ti user. Will have an 8KX when it arrives. I’m going to upgrade to the next Nvidia flagship, or whatever Intel or AMD come up with if they do and it beats it.

Will probably be running the 1080 ti sub sampled a little at first on the 8KX.

I’m running the 8k with a Titan X (pascal), which is about 1080ti equivalent. The 8kx is supposed to look better at lower super sampling so I’m being optimistic. However I am expecting to upgrade to 3080ti or whatever comes out next year.

I also use a 1080ti and eventually should be receiving my review unit so I will for sure report back on this once Pimax sends it out! [;]-)

Another 1080Ti user here.
I am satisfied with my GPU but gonna swtich to 3080 when released to use eye tracker functions.

Unfortunately 8kX supports only 75 Hz native. Which also lowers requirements a bit compared to 90Hz 5k+/8k mode. I think 1080 Ti should run it Ok (not perfect, but nothing will). I’m also going to be in this camp (1080Ti, no plan for RTX upgrade, 8kX ordered).

In upscale mode performance should be about the same as with current models which 1080Ti handles quite well.
