There should be no problem, I got my 8k working with a Clevo laptop that have a GTX 980. Obviously you need to check performance of the mobile RTX compared to desktop.
Had my 8K working on a 1070Max-Q laptop with no issues. Not using it with a RTX 2080 eGPU with better results but you know, it’s about the sum of parts.
Most likely a RTX2070 based laptop will have a better CPU than the older 1070 Max-Q laptops. If anything - undervolt the CPU to keep the laptop running cooler and not thermal throttling the CPU/GPU when in VR.
as far as i can see the notebook in question does not have a “normal” DP port but HDMI 2.0 and Virtual Link Port (USB-C) so no direct option to connect the Pimax
i’ve not seen a Virtual Link to DP/USB Adapter yet and HDMI to DP are not common and might get expansive (also not read about some one using such thing with a Pimax)
so overthink you choice or make sure you have a working usb-c to DP Adapter (usb can be used from a normal port)
Note that in general you would expect the 2070 to perform similarly to a 1080 (a step down from the 1080 Ti). According to this comparsion you would expect the 1080 Ti to run ~56% faster than the 2070.
It also depends on what you are playing. I recall a user (IG88?) stating that they were getting similar performance when using a 2080 Ti vs a 1080 Ti (should be ~20-30% improvement) so the 20xx series cards may actually perform worse in some applications.
thanks for reply, i will now have to reconsider which model of laptop as i do not like too many adapters and prefer native support…hence will need a laptop with DP.
Although i really like the design of the asus, it is very sleek… but unfortunately will have to look for another model/brand.
thanks for you help
decided i might get this one instead, it has a mini DP connector
