Why not use the coupons?

So many backers are interested in the future possibility of an upgrade to the 8K-X, and some are expecting this completely free. I don’t think it’s all realistic to expect such an upgrade for nothing. But then I remembered, we have coupons for other free stuff.

  1. Every backer has a $100 coupon to go against the cost of wireless module. This is great for people with the 5k+ and 8k headsets, but I doubt we’ll be able to wirelessly transmit 2x4k inputs any time soon. Please correct me if I’m wrong in this assumption.

  2. Everyone who pledged for an 8k has the option to swap for a 5k+ and a $100 coupon for accessories.

My proposal is for Pimax to open up the use of these coupons to go towards the cost of an upgrade to 8kx.

EDIT : Corrected relative values:
8k-x = 8k + $200 = 5k + $300.

So maybe allow an 8k backer to:

  1. Stick with 8k as a loaner unit and apply $100 wireless coupon to upgrade for 8k-x, paying additional $100
  2. Get 5K+ as a loaner and apply both $100 coupons to upgrade to 8k-x, paying additional $100

People who backed the 8k-x straight up will still get their $100 coupon for wireless (if this ever comes available) or should maybe be able to get other accessories too?

The idea is to not increase the amount of free stuff (which as I’ve said I believe is unrealistic), but rather to exchange $100 - $200 worth of coupons for something else worth $100 - $200.

What do you think? Is this a ridiculous idea?

If Pimax had a way to offer a DIY upgrade kit down the line from 8K to 8K-X, I’d consider switching from 5K to 8K.

I think thousands of 5K+ loaner HMDs is a nonstarter because

  1. “holy shit that’s ~$1.75 mil USD in hardware (5,000 x $350)!”
  2. shipping & customs has to be somewhere around $80 per HMD out of China, $150 back (no volume shipping discounts on returns). Shipping 5K+ out (5000 x $80 = 400k USD), then back (5000 x $150 = 750k USD), then 8K-X out would run $1.5 mil USD.

i think will not be much expensive because in 2/3 years the best panels will be the same price that are now for pimax 5k+ or 8k. they already receive the money and some backers prefer to wait. im no talking about the backers that want to receive know the pimax 5k+ /8k and change for 8kx in the future. i only talking about waiting without receiving nothing for a 8k+ or 8kx

Customs burden is generally on the customer, but point taken on the “loaners”. How about coupons applicable to the pimax upgrade irrespective of whether pimax offers a trade-in promo?

There are hidden cost in 8k x.

  1. Returning and new shipping cost.
  2. Refurbish cost (old headset with be return).
  3. May different price is not the real cost.

I suspect that if people switch to 5k+, they can use $100 discount to buy 8k or not, lol.
