So, quite a few games require an oculus touch or a Vive controller. Do they even work with our headset ? If not, how do people play games that need either one of those controllers ?
PS Move, Leap Motion, Razer Hydra are the go to’s. I’ve even tried to use 360 Gamepad, save yourself, don’t do that.
So if a game is expecting a Vive controller you can just use any of the above instead and it will work ?
Yes, but don’t buy leap motion, for example if you do not have position tracking, you wont be able to pickup things from the ground.
The Leap Motion driver for SteamVR is too spotty on my side. (Way too much unintended inputs)
Changing SteamVR play space settings as needed will allow the ability to pick up objects, etc. GitHub - matzman666/OpenVR-AdvancedSettings: OpenVR Advanced Settings Dashboard Overlay
So the Razor Hydra would be like perfect ? Anyone else who has a controller and is really happy with it ?
Indeed, but the price has increased big time since their release and consumer VR headsets. Pimax really needs to just help us out and release something we can use for positional tracking & VR Motion controls.
So what about just a VIVE base station + controller ? Would that work in combo with our headset ?
That was my initial wants as well but it appears the headset is also required. Same for Oculus, don’t believe it’s possible to use Vive/Oculus Base Stations/Controllers without actually having their headset.
Thanks mate, that clears it up. Too bad we’re then doomed to an overpriced (and old) Razor Hydra controller, which comes with cables too …
Pimax’s faceplate does not have a led for location tracking, so I expect it to introduce an external device for location tracking, which is probably a system like “Nolo”.
PSMove is the most usable controller right now. The disadvantage is that the installation process is somewhat difficult and the field of view of the camera is narrow and the available active area is small. But it is really cost effective.
Yeah I think I might go for this one. The Razor Hydra is hard to get (most shops don’t sell it anymore), its very expensive and has cables.
The PlayStation Move seems like a nice alternative. However I see that the ‘starter kit’ only comes with 1 controller and the Vive has one for both hands, how does that work ? Do you need an extra controller or can you just use 1 controller to play all Steam games ?
EDIT actually they state here that you need 2x the starters package: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiLYa1EZL04
And they also talk about the Oculus tracking camera, we don’t need that ? Just 2x the cam, 2x the controller and 1x the Pimax should be good ?
I would recommend atleast 3x camera, so you can get some 360 tracking
I have razer hydra and i can sell it cheaply if you intrested. Razer hydra is very good controllers for 180 tracking, for 360 i must say, very bad.
So I’ve been messing around with my ps move controllers and the 2 cams I’ve bought and man … it’s a disaster First of all the whole setup process of the psmove service is not straightforward at all, there are some vids and tutorials but somehow it still doesn’t seem right. I think I’d need to tweak camera positions and angles, not sure, but it’s still not working correctly after hours and hours of fiddling around with everything.
Then the PSmove service itself is quite buggy and crashes/exits quite often and thirdly man I don’t even know how to use the controllers. I’ve copied the keylayout in a vrsettings file I’ve found in some tutorial but it doesn’t seem to work correctly. And how the hell do I even move in a game ?
I would not recommend the psmove to anyone, unless you’re prepared to fiddle around for hours and hours to get it right. And even if you’ve set it up correctly, I think the parkison movements will still be there ?
There can be no translation of positional movement. Only Standing Room Setup works. A lot of Games still allow movement without physically moving though. (TrackPad, etc).
What you have described sounds opposite of the experience you should have.
3x Camera (Triangle Setup) for an decent result is also good advice to adhere to.
When setting up the tracking colors, choose a color that is not included with your surroundings. For instance, yellow was bad in my configs, too many lights.
Also, when setting up the Tracker Poses on (Calibration Mat) I find it best to run though the trackers by starting with the controller laying down.
An description would be:
On Calibration Mat, lay the controller down just above the 1 position with the buttons facing up. (Square/Triangle/X/Circle, etc).
Start Tracker Pose
Select Looks Good (If the cameras sees the controller light).
Next, simply tilt the controller upright onto the 1 position of the Calibration Mat.
When it completes, quickly grab the controller and keep it tilted until you have reached position 2 on the Calibration Mat.
Repeat this until position 5.
Now pick up the controller, it should have proper orientation without much “jitter”.
Is there a link that explain easily how to connect PS3 move with the PiMax 4K and steam VR ?
Already download PS move services and controler well detected and working under bluetooth
But when trying with Kinnect360 and driver4VR it do not work and computer became incredibly slow even with i7 4ghz (taking over 90% cpu power compare to 20% when driver4VR not enable. Is there an other way to use the PS move and PS cameras without the use of driver4VR and with less CPU consuming power. I realy need a way to be able to use Oculus enviro and other games with some hidden menu made for oculus or vibe since eigther mouse or gamepad can’t do (sometime can’t even start the game)…Thanks!
Driver4VR can really bog down the system when using Kinects.
My advice would be to use PSMoveSteamVRBridge_1.4.2 with a 3 Camera+ setup and forgo Driver4VR for now.
The setup process of the PSMoves without Driver4VR may be cumbersome but it’s worth it when the result is positive.
Went through the setup process using Driver4VR with Kinect v2/PSMoves and in the end, the damn buttons on the controllers refused to work (Very annoying)
