Its +2 months on controller & base stations. But really i think the wait is fine as they are simply seeing what they can do with our input.
Originally the Kickstarter for a full package was January. Then it changed to February near the end of the campaign and then in the survey it changed to April for the controllers and base stations but the headset went back to January. If I remember correctly. Iâm backer #6252 so even if shipments start in January I expect Iâll have to wait while the rest of you lucky buggers get to enjoy your HMDâs
@Heliosurge I think youâre right on the wait as the controllers is another area (aside from the HMD) that they can pull ahead of the competition. I have touchpad selected in my survey but thatâs only to not cause any division with the knuckles controllers. If we can get something well made with both a touchpad and thumbstick and an appropriate amount of buttons Iâll be happy.
They already said that they have the screens ordered and the final mechanical moulds for the hmd injectiin moulding are being made so I think it wonât be far off the January estimate. The accessories like base stations and controllers are going to be pushed to may June time though I think.
With the chinese new year, nothing will come out of factories in February. So it will be in January or late March.
Itâs old but here an article that related to the sentiment of those who have backed many projects on kickstarter
I donât think the numbers have change much in 2017, my âoptimisticâ point of view for this one is âslightly tardy!â
I keep hearing about the V2 and the V3, what is going to be the diference between the V3, V4 and V5 what are Pimax doing i.e what version changes are being made , anyone know?
What!! no one has an answer for this ???
Hereâs an answer:
On the kickstarter they claimed the earliest backers might get their headset as early as December. Many jealous users on the forums would rather everyone got them at the same time lol. But honestly, pimax has hit some hurdles. They pretty much followed a structured kickstarter campaign which basically is promise large, find the means later. The difference is that pimax has already produced 30k plus headsets and delivered on that before they ever even decided to make this holiest of holy 8k hmd.
The community has also molded the company. People wanted true 4k per eye. People wanted brighter display. People wanted guaranteed 90hz display.
This detours their projection for delivery im assuming. Its all assumptions btw. And dont listen to anybody here really without a grain of salt.
Keep a tab open on these forums and look for headlines of a version 4 of the 8k prototype. Thats the best you can do to gage a release.
Other considerations are:
Are the lighthouse 2.0 sensors even available for mass production yet? Those will be in all pimax 8k hmd.
Quality control. - will they break down when on for more than two hours? How about 12? Can they take a beating? BBumps, drops etc?
If people sweat a lot will the circuits short out? What about the lifespan of the displays AFTER theyâve been custom tuned for 90hz at 4k?
Some lenses actually lose clarity when exposed to light.
Lots of things to test WHILE theyre making prototypes. SO hopefully that speeds things up.
Lastly, the select content, a kickstarter promise. Will vorpx work? Heck we donât even know what the selected content is.
Anyway. Hope that gives you something to think about for a two or more monthsâŚ
Could not agree more.
I think the headset packages will begin to ship by the end of January as planned (possible the first shipment to the first few lucky pledges on January 30). They pretty much have the headset hardware design down, with just some minor tweaks left. I donât think theyâll need extra time for that. Now, the lighthouses and controllers, thatâs a different story, but we already know those have been delayed a few months.
Of course, anything can go wrong, and I have no problem waiting for everything to be perfect. But Iâm an optimistic type, and theyâve done nothing that leads me to believe the headsets will be delayed. Heck, they just sent out an email to us all saying that they want to start arranging production of our packages, and are just waiting on the last few people to fill out their surveys.
Lol they def planned to possibly get the first batch out in December. I love how the âbro wisdomâ is just arbitrarily changing amidst the community of people who have no idea whats going on in the progression of the headset. They just released an update saying that they are gearing up for production right now lol. I could be wrong here, but then again so could you. Nobody has a clue, so people should stop arbitrarily dropping release dates as if they know any more than suspicion.
You realize this is a thread about guessing when the first ones are going to be delivered, right? Nobody here is âarbitrarily dropping release datesâ as if they know anything, we are having fun and guessing when itâs happening. My guess happens to be that itâll be on time in January.
On 2018
Not before Q2
Pimax clearly said that we should get an update on V4 mid December ,
and then will come the V5.
Do the mathsâŚ
Pimax has an ambitious release planned for their 8K headset. Iâd like to re-iterate that if they are struggling to get the product completed on time, Iâd prefer a good product with a delayed release, instead of a rushed product with issues delivered in January.
What puzzles me is how do they no they are going to need a V5!! , They sould beable to get it wrigth with V4, if not, how do they no they are not going to need a V6 ?
Iâm sure many changes they already know need refining, the prototypes are there to verify some of the theoretical requirements, so various things in the prototype may still be missing or known to be functional enough to test before refining. Itâs not like you aim for the final version in one go!
Theyâve been working on this thing for over a year lol I remember the initial impressions of v1
For what i understand the v5 should be the final version but can be wrong.
it would be really nice if at least Pimax could say something.
Delayed or not delayedâŚhere is the question
