What needs to run in the background?

Does Pitool have to run in the background whilst running games, how about oculus software or steam VR? They all resources hungry!

Pimax has a service which automatically starts in the background, but my understanding is you don’t need to specifically run pitool software unless changing HMD settings (I turned off the option to start Pitool with Windows).
