lol, pimax like… little delay xD
“what can you anticipate from Pimax?”
In hindsight the answer was obvious!
Welcome to the OpenMR!
Well I believe all that is left is the controllers should ship out this month in theory.
Wow, they have definitely outpromised my expectations! Now all fingers crossed that they can (out)deliver their promises!
Does this mean whoever own 8KX can get the 12K Oled for $1,100? $2,399 - $1,299=$1,100
Very Cool - I am quite impressed and that they did not promise it for this christmas is a very good thing - I cant wait to get my hands on the new one!
Edit: Also very nice to see @SweViver and @VoodooDE again near a pimax stream
Sounds too good to be true, but Nvida, Tobii and Qualcomm?? I’m in. Almost…
What comes with the price? Headset, controllers, modules, Tobii, station, all of it?
Qualcomm seems like the kind of company to require formal agreements and NDAs a lot, so technically they might be ‘working with’ Pimax on paper, but who knows if that’s anywhere near as closely as NVIDIA and Tobii might work with companies like Pimax.
Whoa. That certainly was quite an announcement @PimaxUSA
So from an announcement perspective this definitely was not underwhelming even if I personally would not have made all the design choices the same way - if they pull it of in good quality, it is a massive achievement.
That is where my brain kicks in and tells me to wait & see what happens down the road, and by when. Clearly they are still quite a while away from delivery, and their own and the industry track record say that delays are to be expected. so realistically I expect to see this ship rather in 18-24 months. My main gripe with it is - if they pull it off, and it is as fantastic as it seems, what if we still don‘t have DFR implemented by the devs of our favourite games by then ? Then you‘ve got a brick at home not even a 4090 will manage to drive properly. In that sense their marketing statement of being several generations ahead would come back as a curse - it would be so true that no then-current PC can cope with it…
But okay, today I pull my hat for Pimax to be ambitious to an extreme, and am rooting for them to not burn when approaching the sun almost too much, this little Ikarus company…
I will certainly be watching this space, but it will be a while and let‘s see what others come up with, and how well Pimax ambitions translate into a well-rounded product.
So, within a couple of days we have two new headsets, both beyond 2K in price. Wow. If they deliver what they promise, it would be worth it. But in my eyes both need DFR being supported end2end to be successful in the consumer sphere.
If it takes that long, Pimax will be definitely be well behind others, and the industry as a whole would suffer greatly.
Also it’s much less aggressive timeline than the timeline the team wanted to show. People can check our progress at CES.
I’m excited about everything they announced, but I wish they would focus on a single shippable product instead of trying to offer a ton of variants. They have a good team that can put out some solid hardware but spreading themselves between a ton of different variations on the same product means they have less time really working through all the issues.
I’m really happy with how my 8kX is working with the knuckles, but I’ll likely be upgrading when I can get in on the 12K.
I presume their “already own one /deduct it” from the new HMD only applies to 1 per customer. I currently have the 5K+ and 8Kx. I know, silly question but had to voice it
edit: retract, got my answer. Only 1 per customer.
Look like I was right !
Pimax you have delivered today, no doubt about it.
Now can’t wait to have more details about all the options (Power station, 60GHz wireless etc…) and eventually put hands on this Pimax Reality 12K QLED!
Will there be a WiGig upgrade path for the current headsets, and especially the 8KX?
and here I was hoping that the last “one more thing” would be…
and for our loyal backers who purchased the 8KX, we have made drop in replacement Bionic Lenses available for $$$
Impressive lineup though, hope you guys pull it off…
Now where’s my Wireless module for my 8KX
Please do keep the pace steadily fast at Pimax. Something like the 70PPD center area display in particular may be essential for me in the near future (I see that as a most significant next milestone for VR from the adequacy of the Pimax Vision 8kX).
I think I will be in track to open a museum for Pimax Headset at home in less than 10 years if I continue on purchasing every headset Pimax make
Is there an official link with all the specifications?
It‘s nice that they are optimistic about the time line - but the headset boasts so many advanced features that I would really be astonished if these can be implemented in sich a short time. The unknown here is how long they have been working on it already and how many of the components already have been fit together and tested; but looking at the delays in the 8K/5K trajectory, it played out to be more complex than anticipated early on. Of course they will have learned a couple of lessons along the way, but I still have difficulties seeing them be ready 14 months from now: compared to their current headsets I would think that the 12K QLED will be far more complex from an engineering perspective. So many more components/systems to be integrated.
Well, Kevin hinted at the CES being an opportunity to witness the prototype. It will be interesting to see the coverage by the VR media & users.
