If “Frontier” is indeed a Star Trek reference then the answer is probably: Holo Deck!
Autostereographic would be nice, indeed. As a glass-less AR solution - or in a dark room, to get a VR-like experience. This together with 3D-scanners, so people from different places can be projected into your room (and vice versa).
For many scenarios a canvas/flat 2D plane is all that’s needed, there such a thing wouldn’t bring a big advantage over monitors. But would be interesting to brainstorm how UIs for matching applications could look like, assuming such capabilities. Much of this could already be realized with glass-based AR. Would have to bring a more significant advantage over flat screens though as wearing a device is always less convenient than a monitor.
My actual guess for tomorrow: They sourced a new panel that they stick into the usual frame together with better eye tracking and call it 8kX+(Ultra). Well, perhaps with redesigned lenses this time?
Maybe a new very sturdy material for the housing so it’s more durable and it won’t start to crack after 8 months the headset is just to expensive for something like that to happen
My housing cracked after 8 months on 2 sides and I really take good care of all my stuff.
So good to know there aren’t other people with this problem so I don’t have to worry to much that the housing of my replacement is going to crack once I get it and make use of it
Yeah I’m not interested in RMA this, its cosmetic, takes extremely long right now to ship things around the world right now due to covid, and I been waiting for the whole set for a long time I’m not prepared for more waiting.
that is not possible, then you would just have to go backwards.
I like Pimax and for me it’s great value for money and I don’t want to swap it either. You have to do something, but they work on your problems and bring new innovations.
So I can’t imagine that I’ll be disappointed
Wireless: Being in the middle of a game and feeling the tug of the cable on your head absolutely kills the immersion. Wireless is in my mind a must have for a true VR experience. If going wireless there must be a generous battery. I would say minimum of four hours. Could provide multiple batteries, or off the shelf replaceable batteries (expensive)
Resolution: the clearer the image the more lifelike the experience will be. Making it so your feel like you are really there. …but more demanding.
Ease of use: the UI needs to be user friendly and not complicated. I know Pimax can become overwhelming with all its settings to new comers.
FOV: this is personal preference but since I went to 170 degree FOV, playing in anything else makes me feel constrained. I don’t get the distortions others see so I love it. Seeing the black walls inside the HMD are not great, but not game breaking. Having a true human eye FOV is demanding though.
Parallel Projection: please make this go away
Lenses: Fresnel are great for what they are, but they are old technology at this point. There has to be a better option.
Sweet Spot: a larger sweet spot would be a plus
Screens: Mini OLED with true blacks. I love horror games and even turning the brightness/backlight down, the glow of the LCD is annoying. Personal complaint.
