VRGamerDude: HP Reverb G2 Live Unboxing and First Impressions

I need a new gpu for asgards, but I do agree. As of now I play on my Q2 because I prefer that one with the graphics on high. So much repro I was getting kinda sick with my 5k+ with gfx on high. Honestly skyrim is breathtaking with wide FOV too.

Every experience is better with high FOV, but as you said, when you add up the amount of B.S it takes to get there plus the eye strain, its a tough sell. Additionally to no fault of pimax, software compatibility with wide FOV is completely shot. Many apps are broken even with PP on still.

Sometimes you do have to remember this was a kickstarter, and for a kickstarter they did/are doing an amazing job. Personally, when I pre-ordered the 5k+ it was the only obvious upgrade from my vive. The index hadn’t been announced until months after I owned the 5k+. I’m definitely a clarity>FOV>colors/blacks guy, so my main reasoning was resolution at the time. I don’t plan on selling my 5k+ because it seems pimax are the only players in the high fov space. I just hope they don’t rely on that too much, as it’s really not the only factor to enjoying an immersive experience.

I think Pimax is great if your life doesn’t depend on it. Like its okay to love your pimax and be down on them when they screw us over and over.

But at the end of the day when you get it dialed in the combo of FOV and resolution is unmatched.

I would say you need a backup headset though. Something like an oculus or maybe a G2 for those times when FOV just isn’t enough.

Thanks PimaxUSA. Look forward to the changes and hopefully improvements.

It was my greenscreen… The G2 does not like solid colored walls at all!

Lol harsh - it’s a two line post of which one says ā€˜I cant wait till i get my hands on it…’

yes , and for each color separately, that is why I’ll stick to Pimax becouse no other LCD hmd can do this. Thats important part of my immersions in sims.

I was feeling a bit down, but I just found out now that I received a tracking number for the Reverb G2. It should arrive by Thursday. Will do a full review

oh that’s what you meant. I was thinking they added a new slider.

@vrgamerdude Is there a power button the Reverb G2. I plugged everything in but it’s not turning on!

When I pushed in displayport cable, it seemed to slide in but I didnt hear a click or anything. It’s easy to pull it out. I wonder if its even plugged in fully. But i’ve pushed it as far as it will go.

MIne gave a slight tactile clicked in feel. I remember thinking I was pushing it in too far till it gave me this confirmation…

Is yours fully flushed with the shell? As it seems the one @NextGenVR has is not.

Okay, so I unplugged and plugged in displayport again and this time I heard a sound like it clipped into placed. But its still not detected in windows. Either its my windows or the headset is dead on arrival :frowning:

I’ve spent hours trying to fix this. I give up!

Can’t help you there. WMR should pop up onscreen the moment G2 gets power. I’m assuming USB is plugged in to a live port. I plugged my G2 usb straight into the 2080ti usb port. No probs experienced.

The 3090 doesn’t have a usb port. I used USB C to USB A adapter to plug into a usb 3.0 port on my PC. I’ve tried many different ports. I’m going to try my laptop

Going to say. You can’t be a Pimax owner and give up that easily

Mine went black on me on first connection but I just reseated at both ends and haven’t had that issue again… I also didn’t feel a click but try to re-seat at the HMD side… pretty sure that’s gonna be the culprit. Also IDK if it makes a difference but I am plugging into a native USB C port on my MOBO…not using the adapter.
