VRFocus - CES 2019: Pimax : 5K & 8K VR headset, Eyetracking, Leap Motion and new Controllers

Haven’t seen this posted so here goes…

Interview with Kevin Henderson of Pimax USA at CES 2019.

Lots of good stuff. I’ll try to list some of it in bullet-style:

  • US + EU Support Center planned
  • Talk about the Leap Motion module (Foveated Rendering etc.)
  • Availability of modules
  • Production 200+ units/day on most days
  • QA of up to 280 units/day
  • Shipping 135 units/day
  • All future (no specific date) units/replacement units will be shipped in as little as one day from “local” (US/EU warehouse/center)
  • Collaboration with Nvidia + Valve
  • Nvidia/Pimax will show some features at GDC
  • In-house development (Firmware/PiTool/BrainWarp)
  • Upcoming announcement of prices on basestations and controllers (“very very competitive pricing”/“market leader”)
  • Future standalone headset?

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

Would suggest improving packaging and logistics. This advice comes without consulting fee

The arrival of Kevin Henderson is a key turning point in the whole Pimax drama. Up until his arrival I was seriously considering cancelling my preorder with all the negativity on these forums. But having watched him on CES videos I am confident that he will make Pimax great again

Did Kevin just confirm the color adjustment at 5:30?

He said color and contrast are going in, so sounds like it in the future, yes.

Looking forward for it! hoping for some foveated rendering demo and if possible some high-FOV rendering trick along with the corresponding unreal/unity plugins announcement.
