“Something big” coming up soon ™ according to Ben Lang.

Could be either Deckard or the Samsung/Google headset I guess. Sounds like either of those 2 will be revealed before the year ends

Well, so far its only Google with a clone/mesh-up of the Quest 3/AVP…
not terribly exciting.

Oh Jesus. I hope this isn’t the big news we were told was coming.

It’s definitely the news since Ben posted his hands on experience: Hands-on: Samsung‘s Android XR Headset is a Curious Combo of Quest & Vision Pro, With One Stand-out Advantage

And it was to be expected that it was either this or Deckard. No details were shared and it’s still a prototype so hard to get really excited by this ‘reveal’ that doesn’t reveal that much. So, who knows if it’s going to be as good as the AVP…

Thing is we already knew that headset was coming. To me its nothing new. I really don’t know what Ben would make a big thing about it and get peoples hopes up or get people to think it was a Valve headset. If it was Samsung Ben should of said its nothing to do with Valve.

Yeah this is kinda non-news I agree. Not even a final version and no tech details at all so yeah, nothing new. I guess Ben was just really excited he was invited to try it.

We had this article last month.

And for another round of disappointment on the same day, will Half Life 3 and Deckard/Roy be revealed at The Games Awards?

Or just more copium fuelled insanity? It’s very comforting looking at old patents :crystal_ball:

Thats the thing, I see HL3, Deckard and Index 2 all tied together. I can’t see any launch on their own.

Coming to the end of 2024 and I don’t see any big VR upgrades in 2025. Not one that would make me go against the hope that rests on Valves shoulders. MeganeX would be my second choice but the FoV is too small. Pimax Super is still too big and heavy and the US/China relations are hostile. I can see the US ban the likes of Chines drones in 2025/26. VR headsets with cameras will follow soon after imo.

Pimaxes decissions on the Supers modules is a turn off and the 12k is a running joke.

Valve is our only hope. lol

All index ever needed was a resolution bump (the boe panels are model year 2017!) and tougher controllers

Personally I think valve may announce an ecosystem based on the volume of work with proton for steam deck

It’s quite funny how the Index is still full price after all these years. I don’t think its ever gone on sale once.

From my limited understanding it wasn’t profitable nor needed to be, sold B2C to maintain a small margin for Valve whilst keeping price the full kit with two base stations under $1K

I don’t see it going on sale as they are shipping remaining stock since manufacturing ceased earlier this year. This will become more precious as stock dwindles for people seeking replacement parts

It amazes me people are still buying that thing. I LOVED it back then but damn, it’s some old tech right now that belongs in the museum

Closest thing, could be what you mean, is the surreal touch controllers coming out soon: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/surreal-interactive/surreal-touch-1-controllers-for-apple-vision-pro

They are intended for the AVP but are self-tracking controllers so technically should work with other platforms if able to interface.

Interestingly Sony is reported as working to bring some kind of support for the psvr2 controllers.

Somnium has announced price hikes of $500 on the VR-1. This in bad for Somnium as the price was already hefty.
