For seated simulator use, nothing beats old high FOV headsets from Pimax to me. But for casual use by my kids I just ordered Vive Pro 2. I run RTX 4090. Does anyone have hints how could I use both headsets without disconnecting either of them? I believe I still have one Display Port available.
For Pimax, I do not use SteamVR - I only use direct PimaxXR so I can leave SteamVR purely to Vive.
It might be fine, but what about the monitor? Is it also connected via DP or HDMI? I recommend connecting it through HDMI because using DP might overload the bandwidth.
Got it work, will leave some notes here just in case it helps anyone in the future.
I have to turn off my Pimax with power button, because apparently lighthouses sync up with HMD, and unless I turn off Pimax, Vive has no tracking (so Vive and Pimax cannot share lighthouses simultaneously).
Might be obvious, but Vive software install is needed. I read somewhere that Vive does not need anything but SVR, but that seems to be misinformation. Until I installed Vive software (lots of junk service etc. But to be fair much less crap than Oculus stuff) SVR was not connecting with 109/422 errors.
But here’s the most exciting thing - I keep my 5K XR as my driving HMD. Vive Pro 2 is nice polished device, but FOV is shockingly small (not only horizontal, but vertical too! And it has highest numbers in HMD DB!). Night racing is bad, really bad - grayfest. Also no 32bit OpenXR. I can’t wait for higher res OLED full FOV HMD from Pimax, 12k?
