Usb cable lenghth and a new idea

Hello!

  1. How long usb cable will I get with my Pimax 8K?
  2. What do you think about placing sponges onto the HMDs to make it more durable?

1.) 5 meters
2.) Wot, no. No sponges on my high end vr headset :joy:

I don’t get your pov :frowning:

These would be high end sponges

Can you share an example maybe of what you’re talking about? Any other devices that have what you’re suggesting?

I mean a black colour sponge/foam that would absorb the energy in case of an unwanted accident. Don’t know any example of such a device but it would just solve a problem of low durability of polymers

But as it would absorb the energy in case of fall it would also protect the displays from breaking, not just the plastic.

The only thing that I’m not sure about is how would it work with the basestations sensors in the HMDs

I see. I personally am not interested, sounds like it would just insulate the device and make it heat up. I have never run into something with my VIVE yet, and I can’t see how anyone would unless they’re extremely careless and ignoring the boundaries of the play area.

If you’re that worried I’m sure you could rig something up with double sided tape or something.

I’m considering it

Lol, is this your first headset or do you already have experience with VR?

My first, I’m young and still studying

Thanks for answering about the usb cable

If its anything you have to worry about its hitting stuff with the controllers.

Or tripping on cats… grrr cats is the natural enemy of VR, but I still love them

Ok well then I can understand your concern, and I totally understand that accidents happen. I think you’re more likely to smash your controllers into something than the headset (that’s been my experience lol), although I guess you could lose your balance and fall flat on your face if you were playing a disorienting game (never happened to me, probably because for games like that usually you’re sitting down anyway).

But ya, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. You will find that the SteamVR system is very intuitive and you can tell where your play boundaries are extremely easily, so it’s highly unlikely you’re going to just run into a wall or something.

Great, thanks. But still a bit worried by @XabbuSwe . I’m a cat lover as well

I’m serious. If a cat sees you having a HMD on they will actively try to be in your feets way even more than usual. Lovely evil creatures

Lmao, it seems there are some people working on a solution to the problem but nothing has been released yet. Check this out, lol.

Here’s another one:

Just setup a padded room. Asylums have used this method for years to reduce damages. (though often the jacket sleeves are a bit long) :beers::joy::+1::sparkles:

My solution is citrus fruits. Put them around the play area and it will function as a “salt ring” hehe
