Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed) in Device Manager - anyone else have this issue?

Hi everyone…
So i’ve found some issues with the 8k x in the last week that i’ve had it, and this last one caused me a big headache with my Motion Simulator which started to act up for some reason.
I went to device manager to check the settings and noticed an Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed) error in the device manager.

So I unplugged the 8k x, moved the AMC Thanos Controller from my motion rig, to a different usb port, uninstalled the usb controller error in device manager, restarted, and all was perfect again and the motion rig was now on a different com port, but no error in device manager and the motion simulator’s working again.

I then proceeded to reconnect the 8K X to the open USB ports i had (i moved 2 around), and boom again the error popped up in device manager. It seems almost like the com ports may be conflicting between the two, but im not sure. If i delete it and just restart windows, the line comes back in the usb controllers.

Does anyone else have this error under USB Controllers?

Although I probably could not help I wouldn’t mind seeing this for myself. When can I stop over?

I have both a thanos controller and an sfx 100 system. I haven’t tried them with the 8KX yet as I am still sorting out my 8KX problems. I’ll try running them all together sometime later this week and report back for you.

Thats awesome please let me know because im running into some issues now

I started a support ticket as well to see what they think

Does every usb port do this?

First it was a conflict with the usb controller for my motion simulator. Then i unplugged the 8k x and the motion controller USB’s and switched them around. Then deleted those usb devices that had the errors in device manager, restarted windows, plugged in my motion controller and it was fine and started to work.

Then when i plug back in the 8K X, the error shows in device manager as “unknown usb device (port reset failed)”

Although it seems both items work now, but there is either a com port Conflict or theres too much power being drawn.

I have made sure all usb devices dont have power management on, So they can now pull full power when needed, but the unknown usb device is still showing there under my usb controllers in device manager

Please wait for the help of domen, you can prepare some malfunctioning videos first, thank you

So Domen contacted me and they said to try an external powered usb 3.0 hub (which i have on my motion rig)… I first connected the thinner usb cable from the 8K X to the hub, and the error was still there. Then i switched it back, and tried the thicker USB Cable, and the device manage entry for unknown USB port went away.

Unfortunately, i can’t keep one of those cables that far away from the PC, so i tried 2 other usb ports on my pc, and still getting the device manager entry that the usb port is unknown. It does seem to only work if the thicker USB Cable is connected to a powered usb hub.

I’m thinking of adding an internal powered USB hub 3.0, but not sure if that will work also.

I ordered an Internal 5-port USB A/3.0 extension card located here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081Y4TK5H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I’ll report back how this works. I only have 2 open Pcie x16 slots left, and it seems this should work on x16 slots too, without the need of a power supply. If I can connect the 8K X to this hub and the unknown usb device error in device manager goes away, then the issue is that the 8k x usb’s are overpowering the usb controllers on my motherboard. I never had the issue with the 5k+, but it seems there’s more power needed for the 8k x (which would make sense as well)…

My motherboard is an Asus Maximus XI Extreme eATX board by the way.
